Umass vs st vincents

Published

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has experience at either of these hospital?

I recently interviewed for umass university campus and gave a job offer in the works. I got called for an interview Monday for st vincents wmc. Almost identical positions, hours, units.

I know the differences as far as for profit/ not for profit ect. I'm mostly wondering which one you would take if you were offered both? Don't know yet about the money. I've always liked st vs and kinda lean towards them. I worry about all the layoffs at umass. Anyway any input would be awesome!

Thanks :)

I may add that my end goal, 3 year goal is to get into the er :)

You have a better chance of getting into the ER if you have experience at a tertiary referral center like UMass...however, be prepared for overtime, dangerous nurse-patient ratios, and frustrated nurses who have been dealing with short-staffing for the past few years.

St Vincents is still around? I thought they closed years ago. I guess not. The only time I ever hear about them is when they're about to strike.

Personally, I would not want to work for a for-profit hospital. Or, rather, a hospital owned by a for-profit corporation. UMass is the superior hospital. You're right about what's been going on there, I think they have mostly been laying off administrative people though or eliminating vacant positions. I have been hospitalized there twice and had several surgeries there and had no complaints. I know someone who works there now as an RN in one of the ICUs and seems to like it. She's been there for years.

I have friends at both...they both are actually happy
