UM Perioperative Nurse Residency Program

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm a newbie to posting topics and utilizing this forum, so here it goes:

I'm an RN with a BSN that's been selected for a PANEL interview (scheduled TOMORROW) for the Perioperative Nurse Residency Program at UM Hospital in Miami, FL for nurses who don't have OR experience. I'm both excited and nervous!:woot::unsure: Any advice is appreciated, however, if there is someone who has sat for this interview or completed this exact program, I would GREATLY appreciate your insight. OR has always been my dream so I'd like to know what the panel is looking for as well as the details of this program.

Kindest regards:nurse:

Hi sunnykris23, ASN, BSN, RN !

Congrats on your interview, it's super awesome! Hope all went well.

I also applied to the UM residency but for Med-Surg/Tele. I really hope i will get a call. I live in NY and looking to relocate to the year round warmth and sunshine

How was the interview? I will appreciate your feedback!

Best wishes and good luck in your career

Hi sorry for the late questions, I had the interview for the same program last Thursday, I'm still waiting for the call to see if I got accepted just wanted to know. How has it been for you guys? And if you have any advice? How long did they take to call you guys? I'm nervous hoping for that call!

Hello! We started the program back in August and trained through December. On our own in January which was still pretty fast for a periop training cause there is a lot to learn. And we are all doing good so far :) My advice? People here are ... Territorial lol. Don't let them get to you. The OR is a very diff world than floor nursing. New lingo, lots of equipment and supplies, anatomy is very important. Not sure what you did before but, it's one of those love or hate things (hehe). We don't push any meds and limited assessment. I got a call back the same day because it was the last interview day! good luck and hope you get it!

Thank you for your reply, and your advice. I work as an or nurse but at a ophtalmogy surgery center. Which I'm sure is totally different. Again thank you.

Oh ok, I'm sure you have the right perspective then! And you're welcome! Keep me updated

Ok so I got an email last Tuesday from the clinical educator, letting me know that HR was going to contact me. today marks a week and HR still hasn't call me. some people have told me it takes some time for HR to reach you. so I'm just waiting....

Did they offer you the position then? If so, did she tell you a start date for the periop training? If so, I'd call HR myself because you want to make sure you are signed up for hospital orientation in time.

Ill contact hr myselft ill let you know What they tell me.
