UM Accelerated BSN Program May 2011

U.S.A. Florida

hi everybody! ive kinda been on and off stalking this forum for a little over a year and finally decided to join!:lol2:

heres my story...i applied into the may 2011 accelerated bsn program for UM, university of miami. i sent my application in dec 1 and transcripts dec 2nd. because i was currently enrolled in classes and because i took ONE college class in high school, my app was not considered for early decision even tho i submitted on the deadline date because all of my transcripts weren't in (a geology class which showed up on my bachelors transcripts and 6 credits worth of grad school). anyway, i have a BS from stony brook university in ny and have taken all of the nursing pre reqs except for chem, which i am currently enrolled in and UM is aware (she had me show her proof of enrollment to have my application stay in consideration). i have a 4.0 in the nursing pre reqs and a 3.52 on my bachelors (graduated cum laude)

the academic advisor told me that i wont hear back until march, but when reading through old discussions it looks like people received acceptance letters at all different types...how competitive is it to get in? do you think not having taken chemistry before would disqualify me? i am sooo nervous. i really want to get into this program and have heard soo many great things about UM.

i know alot of other schools have crazy wait lists, and some only accept the bare minimum amount of students. so im just wondering how many people are in the class and how competitive it really is. i also hope more than ANYTHING that i get in. what do you guys think?

I have a Bachelors in Business and wanting to switch to nursing. I'm not sure where I should take my pre-reqs. Can anyone give me an advise as to what schools I need to look into in Miami. I'm considering Keiser in Kendall since I work full-time and I have to work but I also want to get my nursing degree as soon as possible.

Thank you!

Have you thought of applying to FIU as a post bac student or non degree seeking at MDC and take ur pre reqs there. Once you apply to an Accelerated or Traditional BSN you would not be able to work a m-f 9to 5 job due to time constraints. Good luck on your journey into nursing !

I really wouldnt suggest keiser for pre-reqs. I work for a similar private school and know many things about for profit schools. You will pay a ton more to take your pre reqs there which most likely won't transfer anywhere except maybe to another keiser in the future. Also, there program is only an associates. You will end up taking thousands upon thousands in loans out going there, when you can go to Mdc take your pre reqs and apply to like FIU Barry university, UM, etc. Even if you do choose keiser u will still save money taking pre reqs at Mdc... Good luck and I hope this helps.

bumping this up...again anybody who is accepted lmk when you sent in your application and all your other stuff. thanks

What are my chances to get into this program with a cumulative GPA: 3.45 and a Pre-req GPA: 3.70... I applied by the March 1st deadline, does anyone know by when I would be notify? Also can anyone tell me their experience on getting into the program as well as their gpa and pre-req gpa they were accepted with?

i applied in sept. and STILL haven't heard, i'm guess its because i have 4 pre-req's pending (that im doing right now). I went to UM for my bachelors (graduated 2005) and lemme tell ya, in the application process it's ALL about numbers and NOTHING about you as a well rounded person, they're too big of a university to care about the individual (I love them anyway)

Stony brook was like that as well and that's where I went for my bachelors. I am still missing one pre req and it says on my letters my acceptance is pending I pass that with a c or higher so idk if that's it. Can I ask how you paid for um for your bachelors and what's your plan for this program??

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping to transfer to UM eventually, and I was wondering if any of you knew whether the RN-BSN program was the same as the ABSN program? I am working on completing my ASN now and will be sitting for the NCLEX at the end of my program. Anyway, I really want to go to UM, but unless there is the opportunity for me to utilize the Scholar's Program for tuition, I don't know how I could possibly pay for it! UM is already somewhat pricey, but as I am not a FL resident, out of state tuition would probably push me over the end!

Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated! :)

hey yunas, i transfered there as a sophomore, declared independence from my guardians and subsequently received a lot of grants and loans... at 18 i really had no concept of money, i just signed everything and now i have about 26k in debt- no clue how that happened, you'd think it would be more... i have no idea what i'm going to do if i'm accepted in may since i'll only have 1 month to come up with the money, scholarships are closed and idk, i think i missed the fafsa deadline?? i have no clue what i'll do, i dont really expect to get admitted at this point.

Chefie- UM is a private school, therefore whether you're an in state or out of state resident the tuition will be the same

express,

thanks for the info...unfortunately because this is a 2nd bachelors degree my financial aid eligibility is very limited, only covers about half the program. i applied for a private student loan (took a total of 15 minutes online) and was approved instantly by two different companies (wells fargo for medcap and citibank citiassist). that is basically how most people end up paying for it if they dont receive scholarships...

thanks yunas... i think thats what i may have to do and just hope to find a job with tuition reimbursement later on :(
