Hi there. I'm actually attending UMA's Tampa campus currently for Patient Care Technician. CNA is my current class and I have a great instructor who has been a RN for 27 years. The school offers weekend, weekday, and weeknight classes. So the school is flexible to your needs. If you are looking to just acquire your CNA then that's cool. Also check out the catalog when your adviser gives you one to see what the PCT course has to offer. If you were a weekend student and decided to do the PCT course it is a 9 month course and in the end you can take the national exams to be certified in : EKG Tech, Phlebotomy Tech, Medical Assistant, CNA, and PCT.

If you are just planning on getting your CNA, and you're planning on taking it from a private school or academy, be prepared to pay out the wazoo. I simply took one of the prep/challenger courses for about $100 and passed the state exam. Most of the material is common sense and very simple practical techniques. I was also instructed by an RN. Also took the AHA CPR course for another $35. State exam is additional $127. See how this adds up? I know you can take the course at community college as well for cheaper than an academy or private institution, but I'd still find a challenger/prep course. Best of luck!
