UK RN think about move to Australia

Hi

Not quite sure where to start.

UK RN been nursing for 20 years 10 of which in Cath Lab.

Looking to move to USA passed NCLEX 18 months ago but stuck because no visas at the moment,

Getting really fed up as house sold (Sept 06)and living out of suitcases with house contents in storage. We thought we would be in the US by December last year.

We have had a family chat have a husband and 2 kids and we were wondering if we would be able to come on a years contract and how easy this would be and how long the process would take.

You see loads of adds in nursing press but you see the same for the USA.

Any info would be great, we just feel we need to make the move.

Thanks

Hi Ann

I was in much the same postion as you. Came over to oz for 4 months in 2006, liked it so much came back out here in Jan '07. Its very easy to make the move on either a 6 month or year contract. Takes around 12w to get the whole processing done and be on a plane out here. Ive written a few posts on here about this, look back for them or if you need any other info PM me. ;)

I'm in a similar position though we are looking to make things permenant from the word go. Applying for a 136 Visa and currently getting things in order from the NMC so I can complete the Migration Skills Assessement Application for the ANMC. Has anyone out there jumped through these hoops before? How long does it take to get your quals and UK registration recognised? What do you send and what gets sent direct between NMC & ANMC? Any guidance would be a great help.

We are going to apply for 457 long stay business visa you can always change when you get there.

First thing you have to do is apply for licence with the board of nursing, mine went last week to the NMB.

I also called the NMC and they are going to sent verification of qualification direct to them cost £34.

I now have an agancy trying to find me a job in NSW.

Best of luck

Hi ann h,

im in the same position as you and have my nclex for the US, I 140 approved and yes Im also living out of a suitcase as well. Ive looked seriously into moving to australia as well as quite frankly we are so tired of waiting and the uncertainty after selling our home etc that it does seem appealing to think that in 3-4 months things could be so much brighter!!!

Just wanted to say good luck to you!
