UK pediatric nurse needs to retrain?

Published

Does anyone have any advice on the following?

I am a Pediatric nurse trained in the UK (RN child and BSC pediatric oncology nursing) now living in Los Angeles.

The California nursing board has just said that I need to retrain as my qualification is not valid for licensure in California.

I am looking into courses to retrain but it seems a lengthy process and frustrating that I need to go back to the start... and the complete start as it seems my high school grades are also not good enough so I need to do a GED test before I can do the pre requisites before even commencing nurse training.

Has anyone else had problems like this?

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

US nurses are generalist trained so you would need theory and clinical hours in adult, peds, OB/gyn and mental health to be equivalent.
