Hi !
I'm UK trained and qualified Sept 02 (3yr Diploma). I've been offered a job in BC Canada and need to know whether my training matches up to the Canadian equivalent. Is there anybody out there from the UK who has moved over to Canada? if so, how did your registration process go? did you need to make up any hours anywhere?
If I don't get into Canada then I'm thinking of Melbourne, Australia so if anybody's gone through that then I'd be grateful for any info.

Hi there
I am in the process of seeing if my UK training matches up with canada, in BC also! ...you need to get this special form from the CRNBC, they are the registration board of Brit Columbia and before any international nurse works there they need to first be assessed by CRNBC...they will also tell you of a number of universities in BC where you can make up the hours you lack in order for you to be eligible to work in vancouver!. If you need more info, drop me a PM and i will give you more details :)

My understanding is that UK nurses often lack education in psychiatry, and pediatrics or maternity.
I have heard that there is an initiative wherein you can be granted an license to practice as long as you do not practice in those areas until you have upgraded your education.
Good luck. We welcome all the RN's who want to come to BC. We need you all.

Hi Canuckeh
What is this initiative that you speak of? and who would I have to contact to find out more about it? I am an adult trained UK nurse who has hours short in Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Obstetrics but I have hours in all the main med/surgical areas of nursing
