UIC Graduate Entry Program

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi folks,

Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?

My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...

From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?

rainkissedleaves, if i were you i would go to MU. i have been trying 2 yr to get into school/so far no luck. Faster you finish you Masters, faster you'll be having nice job

You're right. I need to take advantage of the opportunity that I have. Sometimes the answer is right in front of me, but i have a tendency to over think and over analyze. Thank you for your response, mumu. Good luck to you!

Just curious, but have you guys thought about applying to UIC at the regional campuses? I got into the Occ/FNP program in Champaign-Urbana campus that really broke my heart to turn down because it's such a great city and seems like a really great program. Perhaps there is less competition at one of the regional campuses, or perhaps you can even notify them to let them know you'd be willing to go to any of the regional sites if there are any potential spots available this upcoming cohort?

Are you already a nurse? From my understanding the pre-specialty portion of the GEP program is only offered in Chicago.

Oh you're absolutely right. I assumed since the Urbana campus had a regional UIC BSN portion, that it would host the GEP year as well. I sincerely apologize for any confusion!

@rainkissedleaves-If you know 100% you want to be a nurse-I would also recommend going to MU! Last year-right after graduation- I got into into ST Louis University's Nursing program-and im kicking myself right now since I wanted to wait to see about uic lol. Everything works out for a reason though-i hope =). Marquette has a beautiful campus, and you will likely meet many awesome, friendly people =)

Thank you jmonkey! After days of contemplation and discussions with my parents ...... I finally decided on Marquette! :) thank you for all your support and assistance. Good luck to you!

I was also accepted for PNP- we should make a group! :)

Got in for PNP! I'm very excited (although I wish it started sooner, I don't want to wait almost a year before starting!). Is someone creating a facebook group?

Lets make one!

I think in order to make a group, you have to be friends with people you're going to add to it at the time you make it...

@sarasays I have made Facebook groups before and you can add people whenever if you click that setting! Should I set one up?

i'm in as well for agpcnp, i saw that last year's class has a fb page, but the admin person is someone who works in the gep department. maybe we should wait and let them set it up? but it probably also makes no difference who sets it up
