UIC--Cost of Attendance

:yeah:i have been accepted at the uic for my bsn on fall 2009. i received an email that asked me to check my cost of attendance and aids i am eligible to receive...i was really shocked to find that cost of attendance in uic is really very very costly!!!

any one attending uic have suggestions on how to cope with the cost??? i have never ever taken loan in my life, and now its scaring me...

I know how you feel, it really didn't dawn on me how expensive the school I go to was when I first applied and got accepted but you'd be surprised at the financial aid that the schools give you and I actually got covered. I did take out loans though but only federal loans through FAFSA that don't have to be paid back till after graduation. Be careful for the loans that have to be paid back while you're still in school. I still have two more years though and it's only getting more expensive since tuition has a tendency to rise a little more every year so I'm hoping that financial aid covers my butt because I really don't know how I would get by paying the school. The books alone are a steep price.

Welcome to going to school in a major city - I know, I'm over at DePaul. While the U-Pass will keep your transportation costs down, paying for room and board are what'll really kill you. If you don't have the money saved up, welcome to educational loans. There's really no other way around it. :-(

UIC is one of the best values in nursing education, IMO.

The program has an excellent reputation, not only in IL, but nationwide. And it is a state university, which makes tuition much more affordable than surrounding private schools. Living in Chicago is expensive, though. Attending other state BSN programs such as U of I Champaign/Urbana or NIU in DeKalb might be slightly less expensive due to lower cost of living outside of the city, but the tuition and related fees will be similar.

are you out of state? Because in district is actually pretty resonable, its a state school so that the reason for the low cost.

THanks everyone, THat made my heartbeat go a little smoother..RN 2BE, I am from IL...Well I heard that one should only take Federal direct loans and not parent plus loans>>..Is it TRUE??? ANd is there a limit in the amount of loan we take from the Fedearl direct loan??

Yay to us for getting into UIC:yeah:

I just found out that I got in a few days ago and my concern in regards to expenses are much the same as yours. I was actually offered a spot in an accelerated program at a different school and now I have to make the biggest decision of my life in regards to which program I'm going to accept. Although the accelerated program is through a community college I would have my license in 15 months and it would be so much more affordable. Only 30 people were chosen out of over 500 so I know that I was very fortunate to be offered a seat. Unfortunately, I'm from out of state and my tuition is going to be absoultely insane at UIC. I know that it's an amazing school but I'm so afraid that I'm not going to be approved for loans for the extant that I will need. Chicago in itself is such an expensive city. Did you ever come up with any answers as to how you're going to keep up with the expenses? Any advice would be so much appreciated cause I only have till Wednesday to make a final decision. (If I choose to do the accelerated program it begins in less than 2 weeks... AHHHHH!!!)

Thanks so much and congrats
