UHM nursing students what was your cumulative/prereq. gpa and NLN scores?
I am applying next year I was just wondering how everyone did.
Do they look at anything specific in the application? Do SAT scores matter? Does being a UH students or in-state make a difference?

It's helpful to attend the Nursing Informational Sessions and meet with an advisor. UHM has an office called the Pre-Health/Pre-Law Advising Center and they advise students in 20 different fields, including nursing.
I applied for Spring 2011 and just got my acceptance letter.
So...
Cum GPA: 3.54
Pre-req GPA: 3.8
NLN: 79 Verbal, 95 Math, 96 Science.
They look strictly at numbers. When I last spoke to Brian (Admissions Specialist), it is strictly gpa and NLN scores.
Good luck!

Hi!
I was accepted to UHM for Fall 2010.
I highly suggest going to an informational meeting- acceptance criteria will occasionally change.
Applications for my semester had new guidelines-Brian was very helpful in clarifying the changes when I went to the info session.
For Fall 2010, they took your highest NLN score under the ALL percentile (not DI or AD): so, if you got a 87 in Math, a 90 in English and a 94 in Science, the Science score of 94 is the one they look at. I was ecstatic when I found this out!
Also, for my semester, the pre-req gpa was based on 16 credits only. They look at one of your zool and one of your zool lab classes as well as 1 other science class (whichever has the higher grade). Of the other pre-req's, they choose the classes with the highest grade!!
My example: I had an "A" in Zool 141L, 142 and 142L but a "B" in Zool 141. UHM used my Zool 142 because of the "A". I hope this makes sense.
Also, UH won't take letters of recommendation or previous experience. Your best bet is your NLN and your 16 credits of pre-req's. Cummulative gpa is looked at but more so if there are several students that look the same on paper.....the gpa can be used as a tie-breaker of sorts.
SAT's are not considered anymore and I'm not sure about residency status-
It doesn't matter where you took your classes but it DOES matter if they transfer into UHM. Here is the link for the UH transfer credit search- it's very helpful.

For Fall 2010, here is what I had:
NLN percentile (under ALL)
Verbal: 92
Math: 76
Science: 85
They used my verbal score of 92 for ranking purposes.
My 16 credits of pre-req's: 4.0
My cum gpr: 3.5
I hope this helps a little!! Be sure to go to an info mtg!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!

Your c-gpa is comprised of your entire college academic history right? I was just wondering if any of you have red flags on your transcripts? I have 4 Ds on mine and i'm worried about it.
Did you read my post? I had a 2.5 cGPA. That was with over 100 attempted GPA hours accumulated. So A LOT of D's F's incompletes, academic probations, and suspensions, etc.
When I got interested in nursing I aced my pre-reqs and NLN and got accepted on my first try. I'm now one of the top students in my nursing class.
If your D's/F's are in your nursing pre-reqs that's a totally different story. But otherwise don't sweat it. Just realize you need to work your @$$ off to make up for the cGPA.
I must have just glossed it over and it didn't register.
My Ds aren't in any of the nursing Pre-Reqs. The admissions specialist had me worried when he mentioned"Red Flags" on transcripts and how they don't like it.
I'm glad to hear of people who got in that aren't complete drones with perfects across the boards (not that they didn't work hard for it). All the here say that goes around is how i ended finding this website and I am glad that i did!
Thank you for your response!
