Application for UH Manoa
I would definitely go to an information session....they are held pretty often. It helped me out a lot. You will learn a lot by the presentation and you will be able to ask all of your questions.....come prepared with a list of questions that you have. I asked every question imaginable. I'm sure the guy presenting will look bored but this is YOUR future and you will pay GOOD money to UH when you get in. It is his job to listen and to answer your questions if he can. Ask away!

Application for UH Manoa
Marzafar is absolutely correct...UH Manoa SOND uses your BEST 16 credits including several courses that she mentioned. I was just going to add something about the NLN. I was told by the person that does all the informational meetings that they will use hour HIGHEST score out of Math, Science, and English scores. They do NOT use the composite score like KCC does. They use the "ALL" score under percentiles (you will see this when you get your NLN results). So, if your weakness is English and you score really high in Math.....that is the score they use for the NLN ranking when reviewing your application. I was also told that the cummulative GPA is typically not included in the acceptance criteria (as long as it's above their acceptance standards). They review your cummulative GPA as a tiebreaker of sorts. If you and another applicant are similar on paper, they will choose the person with the best GPA. Also- your GPA is based on classes at the 100 level or higher. Anything under 100 is tossed out. I personally did not transfer to Manoa prior to sending in my Nursing application. I applied to the nursing school AND UH Manoa for the same semester.

which med do I give first
Weren't we taught that severe pain is treated 1st? All of the meds were ordered...so: the client will be getting all the listed meds. I was thinking codeine to help the pain which is at a level 7. It's hard to keep from reading into the question but -which is going to help patient comfort quickest- is how I would look at it.

UHM current nursing students GPA and NLN Scores?
Hi! I was accepted to UHM for Fall 2010. I highly suggest going to an informational meeting- acceptance criteria will occasionally change. Applications for my semester had new guidelines-Brian was very helpful in clarifying the changes when I went to the info session. For Fall 2010, they took your highest NLN score under the ALL percentile (not DI or AD): so, if you got a 87 in Math, a 90 in English and a 94 in Science, the Science score of 94 is the one they look at. I was ecstatic when I found this out! Also, for my semester, the pre-req gpa was based on 16 credits only. They look at one of your zool and one of your zool lab classes as well as 1 other science class (whichever has the higher grade). Of the other pre-req's, they choose the classes with the highest grade!! My example: I had an "A" in Zool 141L, 142 and 142L but a "B" in Zool 141. UHM used my Zool 142 because of the "A". I hope this makes sense. Also, UH won't take letters of recommendation or previous experience. Your best bet is your NLN and your 16 credits of pre-req's. Cummulative gpa is looked at but more so if there are several students that look the same on paper.....the gpa can be used as a tie-breaker of sorts. SAT's are not considered anymore and I'm not sure about residency status- It doesn't matter where you took your classes but it DOES matter if they transfer into UHM. Here is the link for the UH transfer credit search- it's very helpful. http://www.hawaii.edu/odstc/ For Fall 2010, here is what I had: NLN percentile (under ALL) Verbal: 92 Math: 76 Science: 85 They used my verbal score of 92 for ranking purposes. My 16 credits of pre-req's: 4.0 My cum gpr: 3.5 I hope this helps a little!! Be sure to go to an info mtg!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
