I'm new here, so this is part intro and part grump about the nursing status in this area...
I moved back to this area after a 10 year hiatus in Nebraska where I have held jobs such as EMT (in an ER for 3 years), prison guard, 9-1-1 dispatcher and veterinary technician. I got pregnant in August with my second child and decided that January would be a GREAT time to start working towards my pre-reqs for nursing school. So here I am.
I've also been trying to get a part-time job at the hospitals in the area, anything really, a unit sec. job, a tech job, a PBX operator job, whatever would get me back into the hospital again. After over 50 applications, with an excellent job history, I STILL don't have anything so I'm taking a few months hiatus while I have my baby and get adjusted to having two kiddos in the house.
I'm doing only online classes for my pre-reqs this semester and so far, I've ended up with a TON of reading that is wearing me out and very very not interesting.
I had no idea it was so hard to get into nursing school around here, no idea at all. The longest I've heard people waiting in Nebraska was 2 years and that was while they were still finishing up pre-reqs. I am very seriously considering moving up to Marysville or higher if it would help me get into school. I loathe the central valley (grew up there) so I would not go south of Sac (probably to my deficit, huh?)
Anyway, like I said, this is an introduction of sorts and hopefully, it will give me some insight into this area as far as the nursing situation goes.
I am planning to go into ER nursing once I graduate. I loved working ER work and that is where my heart is.

Well that is just so cool. I have not got anything in the mail.....But I am glad that you did. So what do they tell you. Do you have to call them, or do they give you an orientation date? Sorry if i am living vicariously:wink2:
It's all good, I was the same way when my friends got in too.
They had sent two pages to me, one was telling me that I have been given an opportunity to be a part of this grant program called the Nurse Education Initiative Project (NEI) and part of being part of this project is them collecting data on students that are part of this project. There are a few things that I will be asked to do as part of this project like additional assessment paperwork, monthly meetings with counselors and post graduation follow up.
The other letter that I was given was the one that told me they were happy to inform me that i was chosen and that I would be part of the NEI project. It also talked about the acceptance being contingent upon the TEAS test. Since I have already taken it and passed I will not need to re-take it.
I have this form that I need to sign and take to them apparently in person by the 14th of May.
The orientation is in June and that will be where I get most of the core information for the program. I do know that they are asking for like drug test, physical, background check and whatnot so those things are on my list of things to do.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask, I am a very open person so don't feel bad about asking
That is really sweet of you. I would love to hear about the process of school as your going through . I am sure a lot of people here can support you so keep everyone posted. I am sure i will have other questions later........But we will definitely have to keep in touch.:nuke:
Anytime, my door (e-mail) is always open:D
I am really hoping that you will continue to apply for next semester! It would be great to have someone to give advice to!
One of my really good girlfriends who has taken classes with me and applied with me was not accepted to any of the schools we applied to this semester and it has been really hard for her. Frankly it has been really hard on me too. I want it so bad for her and to have a good friend there with you the whole way would be incredible. She was in my wedding and we live 2 streets away from each other and it has been really hard for me to accept that we will not get to do nursing school together.
We applied to Yuba together as well and we were # 526 and #527. We were going to go up there together. Which reminds me that I will need to call them.
Please Please don't give up! Just remember that it really does happen and tell yourself every day that passes is a day closer to the day you will get that letter!
I have had to do that for the last 2 years and it really helped me get through the hard times.

I'm in an NEI at SCC (their part-time program). It's just a matter of an initial meeting and some paperwork with someone from the state and then an email each month with a quick update on how you are doing in NS.
Congrats on getting in to ARC's program. Best of luck in NS!

Thank you!
I see, I was really surprised when they were talking about this additional paperwork and assessment with the meetings.
How do you like the part time program?
I applied for it last semester, how has your 1st semester treated you?

The sent me a letter and I was so surprised because I was on the look-out for a manila enevalope not a letter. At first I was not sure what it ment because it was talking about this new grant and that they wanted to have me as a participant in this specail program. Then I looked at the other page they sent me and it said "We are happy to inform you that you have been selected"
So after that I basically fell to the floor and started sobbing.
