I'm new here, so this is part intro and part grump about the nursing status in this area...
I moved back to this area after a 10 year hiatus in Nebraska where I have held jobs such as EMT (in an ER for 3 years), prison guard, 9-1-1 dispatcher and veterinary technician. I got pregnant in August with my second child and decided that January would be a GREAT time to start working towards my pre-reqs for nursing school. So here I am.
I've also been trying to get a part-time job at the hospitals in the area, anything really, a unit sec. job, a tech job, a PBX operator job, whatever would get me back into the hospital again. After over 50 applications, with an excellent job history, I STILL don't have anything so I'm taking a few months hiatus while I have my baby and get adjusted to having two kiddos in the house.
I'm doing only online classes for my pre-reqs this semester and so far, I've ended up with a TON of reading that is wearing me out and very very not interesting.
I had no idea it was so hard to get into nursing school around here, no idea at all. The longest I've heard people waiting in Nebraska was 2 years and that was while they were still finishing up pre-reqs. I am very seriously considering moving up to Marysville or higher if it would help me get into school. I loathe the central valley (grew up there) so I would not go south of Sac (probably to my deficit, huh?)
Anyway, like I said, this is an introduction of sorts and hopefully, it will give me some insight into this area as far as the nursing situation goes.
I am planning to go into ER nursing once I graduate. I loved working ER work and that is where my heart is.

A lot of nursing schools in CA are difficult to get into. I got denied twice by community colleges because the ones I applied at used a lottery system. My advice is that, if your grades are good find a school that accepts based on merit. I got right in at a CSU and am getting my BSN next month. It is much easier and less frustrating. Do some research and call the different nursing departments for information. I am moving to Sacramento in July, hopefully nursing jobs aren't as difficult to get into as nursing schools :)
:nuke:
I live in Sac as well and my experience with the whole enrollment process has been very frustrating too. I just put in my fourth round of applications and again nothing. They say it takes 8 weeks to respond but I am betting that since I have not heard anything yet that I will be getting a rejection letter soon...... It is really hard to stay positive. I feel like I have really bad karma.

I can totally relate!!
I applied to SAC City, ARC and Sierra and this is my 4th time applying and I still have not gotten accepted!
I am still waiting for my letters for this round!
It gets harder and harder each semester I put myself through this, I am trying to keep my expectations low so I wont be let down so hard again.
Keeping fingers crossed!
Are you on the waitlist for Yuba? I am taking some classes online now for their program. I cannot even speak of my desperation. I feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It sure is nice to correspond with someone who can relate though. My husband is really supportive but sometimes its not enough ya know? I assume we should be getting a response pretty quickly. ARC and SCC are really good about not making you wait the entire 8 weeks. However, Sierra really makes you stick it out. I hope you get some good news soon.
I'm not yet done with pre-reqs. I have about a year left of them and it's all the sciences that I've got left so I'm trying to space them out a bit. I hope to be done with them by a year from December and then start getting my apps out. If we can move up to Grass Valley or Nevada City, I'll transfer up there for the rest of my pre-reqs probably. It's looking like it's easier to get into the classes up there.

Yes I am #257 as of January 08 when they sent me my letter telling me where I was on the list. I have until Fall'09 for my # to be called so it will be a while. I just need to take the Pathophys class which I am going to try and get into for the fall. I wanted to take it online. I really can't drive all the way up there to take it so I was going to do the online thing. Otherwise I have all the other classes taken care of.
I know how you feel about the desperation, my husband has been so patient and supportive as well. I am just so ready to be doing this thing already! After 2 years of applying I am feeling like there is no light, only darkness!
I am hoping to hear this weekend, they always seem to send them on a Thursday and I get them on a Friday or Saturday. It is so hard not to stalk the postman! I just sit by the window around that time and wait for him to walk by. :bowingpur Pathetic I know!
But what else am I suppose to do? UGH...
My "estimated" acceptance date for Yuba is fall of 09 as well. Do you know anyone who has been accepted to any of the programs in Sac?
No I haven't heard that anyone has gotten anything yet! My Med Dosage teacher who teaches 2nd semester asked the class if anyone had heard and no one said they had.
I think I am going to call Yuba city and see if my # has changed at all. I am just curious. I found my estimated date when I logged in to the enrollment site and it showed my graduation date. Is that where you found out yours?
No, I emailed the secretary back in Nov. and she told me when she thought I might be accepted. What website are you talking about? She said I could email her again in July 08 to see where I am at. I gave her my ID#. It took a day or two to respond. I can only imagine how busy they all must be.:) I think if you go onto the YCC nursing website there should be an email address there.

I called them this morning and found out my acceptance date was slated for Fall '10. Ironically I also found out today that I was accepted into ARC's program!
Finally after 2 years of applying!!!
It was a really weird day for me, I am so happy yet I have a huge headache!
