Uggghhh!!! Hurst vs Kaplan

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Ok. I have a dilemma. I was at a job fair for my college and I graduate in May. Earlier in the semester we had Hurst representative come in who seemed really good and signed up for it. I have 150 $ left to pay and Its in may. It was scheduled at a hospital in May but they rescheduled it a week before at a place called Shriner's. Never heard of it and it irritated me a bit. Its 350

At the job fair Kaplan was there and the guy seemed desperate to get us to register. He wants to beat Hurst out here and started discounting it from 350 to 299 with a refundable 50 dollar deposit. I was confused which one to do. Kaplan has a huge test bank and other students were telling me Kaplan was better. But i heard from others Hurst is.

I have three choices. Cancel Kaplan and keep Hurst. Cancel Hurst and Keep Kaplan. Or do both of them.

I have no idea which is better. What do your recommend?

I actually went through both Hurst and Kaplan (long story).

I compared the two on this thread: https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/hurst-vs-kaplan-823565.html

I totally agree! I just signed up for Hurst and saw that disclaimer. It's NOT worth risking.

Your choice depends on what you need to study for. If you are confident about your mastery of content, I would recommend Kaplan for strategy. I would never recommend just doing practice tests if you lack content. You will just end up memorizing and it be any good because NCLEX is analysis, analysis and more analysis . Hurst is good for content but again the choice of getting the online or classroom type depends on the pace you want to learn. I took the online and studied at a reasonable pace...and supplemented with PDA, EXAM CRAM. I started doing the practice tests a month before my tests using the hogan, kaplan book, exam cram. It's easier and really confidence boosting to do the practice tests when you know the content. This confidence will carry over on the big day!

I used Kaplan and ill admit if i wasn't fresh out of nursing school i wouldn't use it because it lacks content compared to others. It is really good for test taking strategies though. PDA is a MUST! Please use it in addition to whatever you choose.

In my opinion, If you are internationally educated like me. Get HURST and UNDERSTAND the Material DON'T memorize. Hurst gets you all you need for APPLICATION/ANALYSIS type questions and get kaplan or Uworld Qbank. If you are BSN from US or Canada, I recommend getting kaplan strategy and qbank. I find it more frustrating and challenging than the real exam. Good luck and God Bless!
