Ok, my school nurse support group. I just need to vent a little.

When we got back from Christmas Break. At the mother's request (so the kids weren't so out of control, because the medicine had worn off by the time they get home from school), the dr. changed the meds to middle of the morning and the middle of the afternoon. Instead of breakfast and lunch time.

After a few days, when it is evident that this isn't in the best interest of the kids education. Sped teacher rakes mom over the coals about the medicine change. (After, I was already involved and had talked to the dr. office about our concerns).

Fast forward now, almost a month later. This mom happens to call about something else. I sense a tone in her voice and that she says she is "disappointed in a lot of ppl". Well, heck, I have been helping this mom a long time. And when I do, it is usually in more of a "big sister" tone...because, trust me, she needs a big sister to help her thru motherhood.

Anyway, I finally get her to tell me that she is mad at me...according to her...I broke the law, AND she can have my job!!! According to her, the dr. office even agreed that I shouldn't have called. I keep the link to the HIPPA clarification that says I can call the dr. office without her consent. :0

She is supposed to come and pick it up to take it with her to the dr appt. on Thurs. Hope she shows up!!

Thanks for letting me vent...and that you "get it".

No good deed goes unpunished. Hearin ya!!

We have a permission to contact doctor clause on our prescription medication form, we also have a disclosure form that I get signed at beginning of year. I do have parent's that will sign but ask to be contacted before we call dr offices.

Just a little update. The mama came, I gave her the printout of the HIPPA interpretation. She did let me know, in a rather lengthy conversation. That, she is the mom, and she doesn't even have to let them take their medication....*%$!!!!@*&^%$#@!

And, in the same breath, I looked her calmly in the eye and explained that, she was right. She is the mom. But, if we see these same behaviors that effect the kids education in a negative way. That we very well may pick up the phone and let someone know this and it could be educational neglect :speechless:

"Those" parents.. ugh! :***:
