UF traditional BSN (fall) 2016

Published

Hello everyone,

I am currently applying for the traditional BSN program for fall 2016 at US (couldn't find a thread for the traditional program so decided to make one)

I would like to know from people who was recently accepted into the program, what their GPA was, their prerequisites, grades? I currently am finishing my AA in nursing at Santa Fe College and I am also planning on applying here as well (RN program). But my main priority would be UF because I would go straight into the the bachelor program.

Today I went to UF and I asked one of the secretaries what the odds were and she told me that in the last few years, only people with GPAs of 3.8 and up are the ones being admitted into the program. This was so depressing as my GPA (s) are the following:

SF CUMULATIVE3.52

ALL COLLEGE CUM 3.61

AA SF DEG CUM 3.45

AA COLLEGE CUM3.45

(I don't know which GPA is the one they are considering for the application)

I don't know if my expectations are realistic or not. I feel so frustrated. I am even taking my last pre-requisite (microbiology) and I don't know which GPA i'll be having by the end of this semester (my last one). Additionally to this, I've been volunteering at Shands hospital for the past 2 years, I got a recommendation letter from them and one from an Anatomy professor (it seems like they don't take this into consideration either).

Also, what other nursing schools do you believe are good and could take me into consideration? the other thing is that I am married and have a family, I cannot just move away from Gainesville to study because of this. My options are very limited.

Thanks in advance for all the help.

UF is definitely my first choice, I'm not going to get my hopes up though because I don't know the competition that I'm up against. But UNF has a great nursing program too, so that would be fine too!

I've too applied as a transfer for the upcoming fall semester but I'm not getting my hopes up! I think my Cum. transfer GPA is a 3.79, although at my school it was a 3.81-ish, and my PreReq's GPA is somewhere around a 3.83 I believe. So I'm not too confident when it comes to that since I know the average is around a 3.8 and I'm borderline, but I had some volunteer experience at my local hospital and I was in my school's honor society and graduated with the second highest honors so I hope that'll help me look a little more competitive.

Do you guys know approximately when they let you know if you're been accepted or not?

Hi, bostongirl6! I think they'll send out acceptance letters around the second or third week of June.

Thanks for replying prenurse96! :) Do you know if they let you know through email or do they send out a letter in the mail? I want to make sure I'm checking like crazy around that time so I don't miss it!

No problem, bostongirl6! But I believe they let us know through email

I too I'm applying to UF's BSN program. I feel a little discouraged since I am a transfer. My current GPA is a 3.98 and I have a current LPN license.

Wow do you know the stats of these transfers ?

Do you know the stats of any transfers ? I am a transfer hoping to get in I currently have a 3.98 and have an LPN license. Seems a little impossible for transfers to get in.

I am a current UF student who also applied for the BSN 2016 program.

I have a lot of friends who are in the Nursing program right now and can tell you some info :)

The program at UF is strictly based on your prerequisite GPA, and the average is a 3.8

They have stressed at many of the meetings that extracurriculars/awards/references are all optional on the application, so it shows how important GPA is. But this is different for every individual, if someone is riding borderline with a 3.65 they may look at their extracurriculars and volunteer hours.

Because it is such a competitive undergraduate program (and the best in the state), students who are enrolled at UF get first priority and it's rare they accept transfers.

Santa Fe is still a great school, and has an awesome Nursing program. In the end you'll be an RN, so don't be discouraged. I wish you the best of luck :)

Hello, I was wondering by what date do students who got accepted have to send their response by?

Hi, my email said we have until June 13th to confirm our position!
