I wanted to start a thread for the UCSF Residency Program applicants. I recently applied and the application is open until 4/17/2017. These forums give me some piece of mind, Hopefully we can help eachother out!
Hi everyone--I am still in nursing school and researching residency programs. I can't find any details about UCSFs program except for"search the job board for RN residency" etc.
Is there a place that has more info? Length of program, units avail, program overview, application requirements...anything?!
I would really appreciate any info.
Thanks!
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
How far out are you from applying? I ask because what I did was start researching residency programs one year in advance to get an idea of when places take applications. As it gets closer to application time, many of the websites (UCSF included) post an actual date applications will post or a rough estimate (e.g. third week of May). I then added these dates to my calendar and set an alert to remind myself to go to their website as it got closer. I also highly recommend joining new grad specific groups on Facebook (e.g RNInterview Tools, New Grad RN California, etc) because people will often post when applications open.
As far as the residency itself, I generally expect variations from unit to unit. For example, my friend got a job in OR at another hospital and she does the initial RN residency program all the new hires do for 1-2 months, but then OR has a full one-year training program. I interviewed on one of the adult med-surg units at UCSF and was told their program is nine weeks, starting October 8th or so.
Hope that helps!
Cocoafour,
I don't think the wait has much to do with the reference check process. Many people did their reference check prior to interviewing. I received an offer on Monday, at the time the manager who called said that many departments will take a few more weeks to make their decisions and let people know. Good luck to you!
Hi. Wow, thank you so much for responding.
I will have my degree conferred in Aug. and will hopefully be sitting for the NCLEX shortly after. It is weird timing for hospitals like UCSF who only have one start date each year.. I want to start working asap.
What do people like about UCSF's program over others in the city?
Thanks again.

I got a call last Thursday and I have an interview in the PCICU Friday... anyone have any experience with that unit?
I interviewed for this unit as well last week! Seems like an amazing unit. Did you receive an email for reference checks? I have seen a lot about people being asked for reference checks from other units at UCSF and I am getting nervous cause I have not received an email for this

Hi,
Congratulations!!!
I interviewed about two weeks ago for OR. And just got reference check email two days ago. Do you know if that's just mandatory reference checks for everyone who have had interviews? Or they had already selected some canadiates? I want to know having the reference check email is it a good sign?

Hi Hi,
I am having an interview on June 6th. So nervous. Can you share what questions have they asked you at the first round?
Thanks so much.
