They said not to bring portfolios. It was a panel (6) interview with the other candidates (7) present as well. They had us all sitting in a row and each person answered the same question. Once everyone answered, they picked another question and switched off starting with a different person each round. It was nice because it gave you time to think about what you wanted to say. 2 MSN candidates, others were BSN, only 3 had their RN license, everyone did an externship at UCSD and one was an internal employee. They asked the usual questions such as...why nursing, 5 year plan, how you manage time, a time you went above and beyond for a patient, a conflict with pt or family member, example of working in a team. It lasted 2 hours.
You have to check literally every day, it sucks. They just posted 2 new grad positions a few weeks ago with 4 positions each (one for BMT, the other for surg/onc). They've been posting a lot of new grad positions for the past few months actually. You just have to manually go in and check.

i did see they had a position called 'new graduate RN' but it was for an outpatient clinic and only had one spot available...

Just seems like the minute i answer 'no' to the question about if i had my preceptorship on that specific floor my app just immediately gets thrown out. just was expecting more options than what has been available ?
It really is all about who you know there... I volunteer at UCSD and even the nurse managers told me it's all about who you know. Once you have a year experience somewhere, it's easier to get in. Or travel nursing. There's A LOT of them there.

YES! Completely agree it's all about who you know. A lot of nursing students did preceptorships at UCSD and I know so many whose preceptors advocated for them to get hired to their manager. So then the manager just interviews that one or two students and BOOM they have the job and no one else who applied ever hears anything back. Unless you're internal then you have better chances.

Hey! I interviewed with UCSD a few weeks ago. Has anyone else interviewed or heard anything?
