University of Central Missouri (UCM) Family Nurse Practitioner Program

I went through allnurses and there is not much information regarding UCM's Family Nurse Practitioner Program and I have questions for current students and recent graduates :)

I am to start the program January 2016. And from what I've gathered thus far, and please correct me if I'm wrong, is:

- Program is 44 hours

- Courses are offered in Spring, Summer and Fall and courses are ONLINE

- You enroll in whatever class you want, as long as it doesn't require a prerequisite

- There are 6 courses with practicums - 4 courses require 90 practicum hours, 1 course with 135 practicum hours, and the final course requires 360 practicum hours.

So, here's my questions:

- Is there group work?

- Do they provide resources or "help" with finding a practicum site / preceptor?

- Two of the practicum courses are titled the same (ex. 5200 and 5201 are title Primary Care of the Childrearing Family; and 5202 and 5203 are Primary Care of Adults and the Elderly) question is do you take BOTH 5200 and 5201 during the same semester? Do they run the entire 16 week semester or are the 8 week courses?

Thanks in advance for answering my questions. I'd also like any information or feedback about the program and your experiences/feelings :)

I'm sorry, I don't have any answers but how was the application process?

I applied to UCM FNP program and would like to start Summer 2016. Curious how soon you found out you were accepted, have you registered for classes yet, do you plan to work and go to school part time, and any other advice you might have found out. Thanks

I am currently in the FNP program at UCM and yes you do sign up for whatever classes you want. It is part-time and you have to get approval to go full-time. The problem with choosing which classes to take each semester (instead of having a set schedule to follow) is that they often fill up quick and sometimes you aren't able to get in the class you need/want (this happened to me and put me behind a semester). They do not assist you in finding clinical sites. As for the primary care of adults classes they are 2 different classes (I and II) that you take 2 different semesters.

You will not find out if you are accepted until after the application deadline date. I found out within the same week of the deadline. I work full time while going to school part time.

Hi! I was curious how your FNP program is going so far and also curious if you still work at the KC VA? I have sent you a request, I also have submitted my application to the FNP program at UCM and also work at the VA here in Kansas.

Curious how your FNP program is going, are you able to work FT, do you work 12 hour shifts, or 8 hours and where do you complete your clinicals?

I am currently in my last semester of my ADN program (already have a BA), and want to finish my BSN through UCM, and then do their FNP program. How high would you say their acceptance rate is? Do you know if they mostly take into account the last 60 credit hours of your BSN (most recent credit hours) for the GPA calculation in the application process? And how have you been enjoying it thus far?

I have been trying to do research on this school since Missouri is my home state and they are flexible on start dates and affordable. Hopefully, finishing my BSN through them will increase my odds of getting into their graduate program. I am estimating my GPA at that point will be between 3.0-3.2.

Thank you for your advice ^_^

Can anyone share their experiences with this program at all? Looking to start here in the fall. Is it manageable with work life balance and having kids while being part time? How is the graduate statistics course? Thank you!
