Hi All,

I am a new RN working in an ICU and one of my long term goals is to become a NP of Cardiology (I know that UCLA has several NPs on the Cardiothoracic team). I am looking at UCLA to get my NP... has anyone gone through the program recently? Also is anyone out there a cardiac NP in the LA area?

Thanks!!

I just got accepted to UCLA's FNP program a few days ago for the fall 09. Are you going to do the Acute NP program? I work in UCLA SM ER and I have met one NP on the cardio team, but they were trying to get up to the cath lab so I didnt have a chance to speak with her. Have yo applied? Heard anything yet?

No, havent applied. What is the application process like, and how competitive is it to get in?

I worked at UCLA in the SICU/Liver transplant and many nurses there have their NP from UCLA. I don't know much about the application process...but I don't know of any who applied to the program and did not get in.

I was also accepted for UCLA's FNP program this coming fall. I work over Children's Hospital LA and from what I know everyone who has applied to UCLA's NP program has gotten in, whether it be family, peds, acute, etc. Good luck to you!

Hey Betty, have you received any information packet about the MSN FNP program since your acceptance letter? I was notified of my acceptance in December, but I am still waiting for an orientation-type packet.

Also, do you know of anyone else who was accepted? The 2 people that I knew that applied were both rejected. I wish there was some sort of message board for everyone on the UCLA site, I am looking for a roommate!

See you in a few months! -Hannah

Hey Hannah,

No I haven't received anything, but via a friend, Debbie did mentioned that it would be coming in four weeks and this was probably the middle of April when asked. By the looks of it, I am hoping early May so we can all start planning.

I only know of two other people from CHLA that were accepted. The two people that were rejected, did they apply later? I think there was one girl that had just made the app deadline and she was still waiting on a decision last I heard. As far as the roommate situation, can't really help you there. I am sorry if I can't be more of help =(. If I get any new news, I will surely pass it your way.

BTW, have you done the assessment prereq? It's scary to think this is all going to happen in just a few months! AHHHH.

Thanks for the reply, glad to know that mine wasn't lost in the mail or anything!

About the prereq, I don't have to repeat it because I graduated in May 07 so mine is up to date, I could use a review though....I think the girls i know who were rejected applied in late December, so I don't know...I wonder how many people are in the program this year? I heard rumors that they cut it back? Thanks again for the reply!

Hi HannahLA,

I'm also going to be attending the FNP program in the Fall! Have you found a roommate yet? I found out I was accepted a few weeks ago and I'm in NYC until July so it's kind of difficult to find a place from here... Thanks

Hello,

I came across this thread while searching for some advice on applying to UCLA. I am applying to the MSN-AP program for this fall and was wondering if you all have any tips you could offer as far as professors or in writting my Statement of Purpose. I am currently working on it and am having trouble writting on why I chose UCLA. Its obvious that is one of the best nursing schools.. but Im not sure what else to write about the program. Can anyone offer any tips on what the program has to offer or what professors are great role models? I am applying for PNP (Pediatrics). Any comments would greatly be appreciated. Thank you!
