Let's update each other!

I really hope not but there's a chance as not everyone participates in these forums. Perhaps tomorrow! I also want to know if there are any spots left in the OR. I feel like in the past forums I've read, some applicants heard back from the same unit on different days.

wait it out? give up hope? or start pleading with recruiters and hiring managers?
(I want perinatal)
I'll wait it out but also get started with my backup plan and do my speciality of choice at another hospital.
However congrats to those who have heard back, I'm so happy for all of you!

So, I applied for the last cycle, interviewed, but did not get hired. After graduating, I focused on the NCLEX, passed it in 85 ques, and applied to a lot of other hospitals that opened up in the process. I used that extra time to reflect on how I could have interviewed better (since my resume and cover letters usually landed me an interview. [if you don't get an interview, maybe look into editing/revising your resume/cover letter. have family/professionals look at it and take any constructive feedback]). I practiced my interview skills, and it has definitely helped me get offerings at Cedars-Sinai and USC Keck (not perinatal). I applied to UCLA before knowing I would get hired at those 2 places, but my ultimate goal is also perinatal.
From what I learned, it's not the end of the world. Also, I did talk to the manager of the perinatal department at UCLA SM, or tried to "plead" as you put it since I worked internally at the time. It was not helpful as all she told me was "maybe you should try med-surg first.” You can try asking them, but I don't think it'll be any help unfortunately.
The process on landing a job is definitely not always linear and "perfect", which can be very hard to accept as nurses (since we are most likely high achievers or have type a personalities). Everything will be okay. We all will end up somewhere we were meant to be at. Good luck!

This! Sometimes you have to take a few extra steps to get where you want, but it will eventually workout. Don't become so focused on just one hospital, keep all options open. You never know, you may end up somewhere better with a far bigger opportunity.
I was hyper focused on getting into USC or UCLA for their ICU department. Although I did get into USC it wasn't my unit of choice. I became discouraged and frustrated. I ended up applying to other hospitals. Now I'm going start at a level 1 hospital in my
unit of choice and making close to 6 figures plus full free benefits as a new grad. You just need to be patient, doors always open.
If your focus is perinatal then perhaps try starting at a county hospital or a lower level hospital. A friend of mine who got into the perinatal unit a county hospital in LA. She got offered a position in L&D at a level 3 hospital as well. So try applying to other hospitals

Was that interview you had with ucla in the perinatal unit? Do you mind sharing a little about how the interview went.

My friend got NICU yesterday for RR. And few of my friends got medsurg peds and oncology for peds (both rr). I'm not sure about Santa Monica
