UCHSC nursing program

U.S.A. Colorado

So, I recently switched career paths to enter nursing- I am hoping to enter an accelerated nursing program. I was reading some previous posts- I had no idea that the waitlists were so long at schools!! I really wanted to get in next year- I applied to UCHSC - is there anyone out there that is currently a student, if so- how is the waitlist there? I have a high GPA, community experience, etc- I have only applied to one school because I thought I would get in- should I apply to other out of state schools?? Also, if you do attend UCHSC- do you like it? What is it like?

I'm going to uchsc this summer also. This thread has been very interesting. Lots of info. I feel kind of left in the dark as far as what is going to happen once classes start. I called to get on the waitlist for a parking permit yesterday and was told that the wait will probably be 1 year. Yikes!! Time for plan B as far as parking goes.

Yikes!! I have no idea what "plan B" will be--probably fighting for parallel parking on city streets?

I live 50 miles away in the mountains so public transportation is not really an option for me. I'm going to drive down next week and see what other options are available and how costly they are. The permits for on campus parking are around 30 dollars I think. I'd love to find someone who lives near me so that we could carpool.

Hi all:

I'm in the Nursing Program at UCHSC. While I'm in the Nursing Doctorate program I will be leaving at the end of this summer with my BSN. In my opinion, the Nursing program at UCHSC has its problems like any nursing program. I have had some truely awful instructors and some really wonderful instructors. In my program, the ND, there were several classes that I could have done without. (The ND program is going bye-bye, but that's another story.) My clinical experiences have been pretty good for the most part. I've done rotations at Denver Health, Children's, St. Joes, U Hospital and am stating my Med/Surg II at PSL on Monday. The SON is located in a residential neighborhood with on street parking but you have to go several blocks away, otherwise you're in 2 hr parking and they do ticket. I live about 8 blocks away and ride my bike every day. It's a safe neighborhood. A lot of my fellow students live close by in rental apts. I wouldn't want to commute but that's me. There's a couple of students who commute from SE Denver and Thornton.

It's hard to say much about the program since I don't know how it compairs with other nursing programs. The ND program has been a lot of work and I'm ready to be done with it.
