UCF At DSC Spring 2010

Published

Hi! I've been checking and haven't seen any postings for UCF's program at DSC for Spring 2010. Has anyone else applied? I'm waiting to find out and I'm sure it'll be a no...too many applicants.....Anyway, anyone else apply?

Hi Kelli:

Clinicals are as far north as Flagler county..Palm Coast area, Bunnell also in Deland and Daytona Beach. Start time varies but some days it was 7:00am. - 7:30 am.

:)

Orientation is just that....you do have some exams to take on the first day....called ATI kind of like an entrance exam and it gives them an idea where you are with sciences, maths, english etc....

You then will have another ATI at some point in the first semester, again to see how you are progressing. You cannot study for the ATI exams.... Throughout the semester if you are only averaging a C in any course they will most likely ask to meet with you and discuss where some of the problems are and how they can help. They see that as borderline and they also see that the 3rd semester is the toughest so they try and help you improve your grades before that.

75-83 = C

84 - 92 = B

93+ = A

No "plus" or "minus".....some of the faculty round up but some don't...so if you have 74.4 one instructor does not round up even if you have 74.9...that is a fail! A's are tough to get, I have managed them but it was difficult for me...all others have been b's.

The ATI test- was it like the TEAS we had to take? FLAGLER COUNTY??!? WOW!!! I live REALLY FAR FROM PALM COAST!! How do they decide who goes where? Luck of the draw? I ASSUMED it would be like Halifax, Fish, deland ,but not Palm Coast!!! That's what I get for assuming!:wink2: Oh well, it's only 18 months, right? Just got my meningococcal and Twinrix today. Next week its Tetorifice and TB test! Fun! Fun!!

Hi:

I'm not sure if the ATI is similar to TEAS...I don't think I ever did one of those..did I?

They do their best to place you in a clinical setting geographically that is close to your residence....if they can....I doubt you would be placed in Flagler...probably deland and daytona beach. Remember Im just talking community clinicial here and not med-surg or critical care...those two do not begin until the 3rd semester....med-surg...semester 3 (Adult 1)....critical care ... semester 4 (Adult II).

You have no clinicals in the summer....2 days a week of lecture..tues and thursday(well that is my schedule...yours maybe different)...so it is a lot of busy work, but nothing too difficult except for pathophysiology.....it is a 16 week course crammed into 12 weeks....brutal!...but doable.....lots of online work in the summer as well.

I had 3 courses in the summer, research, policy/politics for nursing, and patho....like I said lots of work but not that difficult.

Hope this helps.

You will really enjoy it all .....most of the time.

Hey! ATI makes all of the tests- it is a company name. They administer the TEAS maybe also the NET, if you took that.. Good deal about the community placement!! Thanks for all of your info! I really appreciate it Kelli

what happens during ucf nursing orientation?? Do you have to take the ATI test??

What is you don't pass??

All I know so far is that ATI administers the TEAS which you must take before you can really apply to nursing school. I am personally unfamiliar with the ATI testing administered once in school! Kelli

The TEAS is now a requirement to apply to UCF, it must be taken before the application deadline and they are requiring a minimum 74% composite score (which of course is not a guarantee that you will get in with that score, I would have to assume that the competition will drive the average up). I have no idea whether this test was used @ orientation of new students, but it is now listed as one of the new admission requirements for anyone applying after summer 2009.

Well, this thread has pretty much confirmed it...My wife has a 3.8, straight A's in Science and Prerequisites and she didn't get into UCF Orlando because she started her undergraduate career at another college...So, she met with a faculty member in April or May and they told her that they would go ahead and just transfer her app to Daytona and Cocoa Beach and she should easily get in...ummm...August 24...haven't gotten any mail. The lady must have screwed something up...:yeah:

Hi charlesxavier- I got my acceptance letter beginning of August. 3.7 GPA, 87 on TEAS. Had she finished pre reqs? She can call or email to find out why and what happened!

Kelli

Yeah, her application was complete and she has completed everything that needed to be done. I mean, we met with an administrator in the nursing building in April or May after she was told she was on the waiting list. They told us that it was just because she started out at a different university but she should get into UCF Cocoa or Daytona with a 3.8 and 4.0 in her science classes. We got notification in the mail to email them if she wanted to be considered at other campuses, and she did that. And, that was after we already went into the nursing and we were told it was all taken care of. Now...here it is the end of August and we have had nothing in the mail? We are going in tomorrow morning to figure out what is going on. We were out of town and had our mail on hold in the end of July. It could be just lost in the mail, but I doubt it. The real issue is that I intend to go to law school so we don't really have the leisure of extending her undergraduate time.
