UCF- Accelerated BSN Starting Summer 2012

Published

Anyone applying for UCF's Accelerated BSN program beginning in Summer 2012?

Awesome! Thanks for sharing. I have done that already so I am glad that you confirmed that I did the proper thing. What was your bachelors in and what does your GPA and TEAS scores look like?

Thanks,

Jacki

Jacki, so nice to meet someone else applying!

My GPA is about 3.726, and my TEAS is 90.7%.

I have a dual BA in International Studies and Spanish, and a MA in Latin American & Caribbean Studies.

How about you?

my degree is in social science education 6th-12th grade. i am in my early-mid twenties and have been teaching at a high school for approx. 3 years. my stats are not as great as yours so i definitely think you have a viable shot at getting in! i have about a 3.8 gpa and as we;; as a 3.8 in pre-reqs... your teas score is amazing!!! mine is much lower than yours, about an 83 which is not that great and so, i do not know if that score is good enough to get in... we shall see in march! i also applied to the traditional program and if neither works out this year, then i probably will work for another year, take the teas again and reapply. (i need to be in orlando because my boyfriend is getting a masters in applied mathematics at ucf so i haven't applied elsewhere.)

Did you take TEAS IV or V?

Hi guys, I'm applying for the ABSN as well. I have a bachelor's in psychology and a master's in management. Up until recently I ran a nonprofit housing campus for homeless single moms. After 10 years working in the nonprofit field, I decided to take the plunge and change careers, partly because where health/medicine is where my heart is and partly because I am looking for a little better work/life balance. Nice to meet you all!

Jacki I took the TEAS V, I actually just took it this past Tuesday (nothing like waiting till the last minute, huh??). A little more about me: I just turned 30, and I have 2 babies (my son is 3 1/2 and my daughter will be 2 in April). I'm only applying to UCF as well, since we live here and my husband works, etc etc etc... we can't just pack up and move away for me to go to school. So I am literally putting all my eggs into one basket! Fingers crossed :)

Hockeyucf- hi to you too! The nonprofit you ran sounds amazing!!!

I look forward to meeting you both... let's be sure to keep in touch over the next few months :)

Nikki

Nikki, I have a 3 year old and a 5 month old, glad to hear I won't be the only one with kids :)

Cara

I give you ladies a lot of credit for being able to go to school and have little kids. I am working full time and finishing my pre-reqs and there are days when I feel so overwhelmed. I can't imagine having young children added to the mix. (I only have two four-legged children named zeus and lincoln to worry about :))

Cara- SO glad to hear I am not the only insane one who is attempting this with 2 little ones at home :) We will have to have play & study dates lol.

Jacki- I have 2 dogs as well, who are also like my babies :)

I went to the nursing information session in November and found out as long as I had 7/8 of the pre-reqs done I would still be able to apply to the program. I am happy to report that I finished submitting my application today. I had a bunch of loose ends to tie up: a readmission form (I graduated with my bachelors from UCF), a name change request since I was not married when I graduated, faxed my TEAS scores, completed my online nursing application, and requested a hold to be removed from my account. Shew....now I can breath.

I ended up with a 3.3 overall GPA, 3.58 science GPA, 3.54 pre-requisite GPA (minus the stats class that I am enrolled in Spring 12), and a 83.3 on the TEAS V. How does one end up with the highest GPA in the Sciences (just goes to show ya how much I screwed around in college with my previous Criminal Justice degree. ugh!)

I am not holding out too much hope because I am not sure how UCF will calculate my GPA considering I've had three classes that I re-did for grade forgiveness and a F in a grad class that I took (only grad class I took) so I'm not sure if they would calcuate that into my GPA. But its out of my hands now and I am going to keep plugging along and applying for other schools as well.

Good luck everyone!

ps. I also have three kiddos (ages 8,7,2). I too thought I was in the minority in that dept. :)

Yay for other parents! :)
