UAC protocol

Hello all! Just wondering what the protocol is at your institutions regarding how often you change out the microclaves on an umbilical line after a blood draw. Our policy states to change after every blood draw, but on a 500 gram kiddo, that could be every 2 hours that we open a central line! Helloooooo CLABSI. So I figured I'd ask what other units do.

Thanks!

We change from microclave distally every 5 days.

UAC->microclave->T connector->tranducer with inline dedicated 10 mL saline flush attached to top of transducer (using a MicroClave Saline Lock with Extension (Needleless)).

For blood draws, we use the Hummi Micro-draw transfer device with self-vented syringes. Up until last month, we had a 2 yr CLABSI free streak (over 3000 central lines).

Now that is impressive!
