Greetings! I wanted to start a feed for UAB NP Summer 2018 hopefuls! I know the deadline hasn't arrived yet--but I know this anticipation is killing me. I figured this may be a nice way for us to stay updated/connected. We are not alone in this process!! Anyone have any news or insight into the time frame of when we should hear back acceptance status or if they do interviews?
Hi all!
I applied for the AGACNP program for summer 2018. I have been a nurse for almost 7 years. I worked a little less than a year of trauma-med surg and step-down in a Level 1. I then moved into critical care (mainly cardiac and transplants) for the past 6 years. I also did travel nursing in ICU's for almost two years. I took a year out the hospital to do research in a private practice and found acute care is definitely more "my style." I was thankfully able to waive the GRE. I've taken it once in the past and would LOVE to not have to do that again! :)
From all the research I've done and prior posts, it looks like most people heard on decisions around mid-December. I've also "heard" they weight the references and essay pretty heavily. But again, that's all just hearsay from reading these boards.
Have any of you heard about them giving preference to in-state vs out of state applicants? Are y'all in Alabama? I am out of state but have family there, so I thought I'd give it a shot as it seems like a great program and fit for me.
Best of luck to you all! :)
Oh yay more acute cares 🤗. I'm on an assignment with a murse who did his BSN at UAB and he said they have given preference to out of state applicants. Doesn't make since though because a lot of states are in the education compact. I'm in GA and if I get accepted I'll have to pay the same as in state students because GA and AL are in the compact. I've heard the same about references and essays so I chose my references very strategically!
Well, I just got my rejection email from Georgia Southwestern. I'm not really surprised because they take such a small class and don't require an essay or interview, which is where I really Shine compared to my overall GPA. Still stings though. So now I'm super anxious to hear from UAB!! I know we still have at least a month of waiting, though.
Anyone else been through a rejection? I'm self-medicating with a margarita. í ½í¸Ž
My GPA was too low and I had taken the GRE. I took enough hours to get my GPA up to exempt the GRE. Rewrote my essay. My recs were insane so those are no better I didn't chase down the same people. I have 9 years in the ER, my CCRN, and CEN and I work rapid response. Can't really imagine what I missed except GPA.
Hey All - Applied for the Summer 2018 MSN program. Has anyone who is not a UAB/Past/Present Employee/Student been able to create or log-in to blazernet? I see so many messages about people logging in or creating a log-in but most of them are past or present employees/students. Thanks! :) Anxiously waiting.

Hey guys! I submitted application for the UAB AGACNP program, with FNP as a secondary. Spoke to the Program Director yesterday and she mentioned that we'd have letters before Christmas. I've had my submission in since May so the wait is CERTAINLY painful! I've been a nurse for 5 years, with 2 of those in CVICU. I'm hoping that December comes quickly!
