Hey!
I'm applying this year too. Just submitted everything a few weeks ago and now just waiting. I'm finishing up two of my pre-reqs at UAB this summer. Do you both live in Birmingham? Have everything submitted yet?
I'm excited! I hear they increase the spots available each year because nursing demand keeps increasing. Lets hope that works in our favor!
Hey, everyone! I graduated two weeks ago from Auburn with a B.S. in Poultry Science, and I'm originally from Memphis, TN. Currently I am living in Birmingham, volunteering at Children's in the ED, and working as a cocktail server at Pilcrow.
I am overly eager to be in this program with y'all! And I am almost done submitting my application, just have to submit my essay and finished resume.
I am also applying to UAB's second degree program for safe measure. And it's good to hear they're expanding capacity!
I'm kind of surprised that there aren't more comments on this thread. In past years for each applicant cohort many (50 or more?) people commented here to say they were applying, etc.!
Well, here we are though! Monday was the application deadline so I'm guessing we just wait to hear from now on. I'm wishing everyone good luck. I'll update you all if I hear anything.
Best Wishes
As I understood it, in part Part I you became an RN. Then in Part II, you would start taking classes for your specialty while working full-time as a nurse, unless your specialty requires practice time before starting clinicals for the specialty. Both parts were part of the same program, and once you graduated, you were some kind of APRN. Now when we graduate, we'll be RNs. If we want to continue our education, we'll have to apply to a specialty program separately, whether that be while we're finishing up our RN work or after we graduate as RNs. You can actually find the old flier if you Google "UAB AMNP 2018". An old PDF should pop up.
I could only find the pdf of the application checklist and not the actual curriculum plan! If you have a copy and can post it here I'd be interested to see :) I'm assuming what you mean is that the first four semesters are all that the program encompasses now and instead of getting directly into an NP specialty track or other graduate level specialty we must apply/work first! But as I understand, we now have the added benefit of having both a BSN and an MSN after the first year (4 semesters)- whereas before you didn't get anything/any degree granted until you had completely finished both the first four semesters (phase I) *and* the NP specialty. Both still have the same plan for Phase I , except completion of phase I didn't lead to an MSN before- only the equivalent of a BSN (no degree officially granted) and being able to sit for the NCLEX. I think the MSN granted upon completion might be a better pay rate while working through the NP specialty later as an RN. Hopefully so.

Hello Everyone,
I hope all is well and Happy Nurse's Week to you all. I wanted to start a discussion forum for people who desire to apply for the UAB AMNP Program this Fall for the Spring 2019 class! My hopes are for everyone to gain insight in the application process, and have comfort in asking questions while receiving support and encouragement.
***If there are any students who are currently or have previously been in the UAB AMNP, please feel free to chime in to provide advice and any helpful tips from your experience with the application process as well as the overall program at large.
I am very excited to work towards becoming a part of a rewarding nursing program! Best Wishes to everyone pursuing the UAB AMNP Program!
