U.S. Pre-requisite courses = undergrad courses??

Been reading the pre-req's of nursing programs in the states from the bb, and they sound more like undergrad courses... are they?

Does one have to have a few university courses under their belt before applying to a U.S. nursing program? Not to mention a test for nursing like the MCAT? sounds hard!

In Toronto, great H.S. marks are sufficient enough :). In addition, some university courses taken prior to enrollment in nursing are good to get you exempt from taking them again!

It really depends on the program that you choose to attend. All programs require most of the same classes---anatomy and physiolgy, microbiology, statistics, etc. These are all undergraduate level courses.

Also, each program is different as to what entrance test they require.

In Canada (Ontario) you need 6 OACs before getting into the Nursing program. And these are usually in math, English, Biology, Chemistry etc....any OAC's

I believe this is similar across Canada.

Right now I'm taking my pre-requisites to get into the Nursing program here in Ontario. I'm attending the college's program

called Pre-Health which includes the following:

Math

English

Anatomy & Physiology

Chemistry & Lab

Physics (Health Sciences)

Creative/Critical Thinking & Reasoning

These Pre-requisites guarantees you a seat in the Nursing program ahead of highschool graduates. As long as you make the grade.

Isn't the testing done to weed out the best of the best?

I don't have to worry about that out here, the School offers 60 seats for the Nursing program and only about 40-45 we were told, actually get filled, so it's quite easy to get in.

HI. The pre-req courses a undergrad courses. You can either take them before you apply to nursing school or when you attend nursing school.I have heard both sides of the coin and plan on getting my education all at once. I feel I need to have everything happening at the same time to fully understand what is going on. I know alot of people like to take the courses ahead of time. For me it would be to hard taking A@P and then a year later trying to remember it all. Not sure if that makes sense.
