U of Arizona MEPN 2023

Published

Hey everyone!

Did anyone apply to the University of Arizona MEPN program for next Summer's cohort cycle? The waiting game is already killing me!

I think they are equal in person and online. First semester you're in person a lot more because there are more in person lectures, skills labs, simulations, etc but then second and third we only go in for lecture one day a week and skills lab one day a week until clinicals start in mid February. You have to commit to having Monday-Friday 7-6 completely open for school because the schedules are all over the place, but I'd say we are online 75% of the time. No real advice other than don't buy any supplies other than a stethoscope and BP cuff until after school starts bc you'll find out exactly what you need as you need it. Oh and first semester I even had I think 4 clinical shifts on a Saturday, so there is that as well.

OK, I was just seeing if either program offered more flexibility or more in person. I think I learn better when I'm in an in person atmosphere. Were you able to connect with a group of individuals in your cohort to help with studying and understanding material?

Wow I wish I would have messaged on here earlier! Thanks for all this information.  I really appreciate you clearing up the MS part, I have friends who are current RN's and told me it wouldn't do much for me. I've stated before I've got three kids, my biggest concern is "Am I smart enough for this program?” Do you feel like most people on your cohort were just naturally gifted academically or is it possible to grind and work hard if you're not the smartest? I hope that makes sense

Of course! There are so many unknowns and happy to help! I think my cohort had some of both! Some people were just naturally better at understanding concepts and excelled, while others, including myself, had to put in a lot of work, effort and dedication to get the grades AND understand what I was being taught. That being said, the professors in Gilbert are outstanding and truly wish for you to succeed. They are all so incredibly helpful and I genuinely don't think I could've had a better set of professors!

I also thought I learned better in person, but I feel like the program does a decent job of helping us learn self paced at home! And yes! There is a group of us that have literally become like sisters and honestly the three of them are what keeps me afloat in the program! I also think both programs have a mentorship program that connects new students with students in the cohort above them to help them navigate which is also so helpful!

Thank you so much. I'm like you, I have to work really hard to understand and retain information. I am so grateful to you for responding, this really eased my fears. Is there any advice or things you wish you would have known before starting your program?

This is very encouraging, I can only hope and pray to have the same experience as you! I'll probably pop on here and bug you again sometime! Best of luck and congrats on an amazing achievement

It sounds like you've had a really great experience in a really hard program. This makes me hopeful for myself. You're amazing and I wish you the best! I'll probably for sure have more questions but this has been so great being able to speak with people who have actually experienced this program.

Hi,

I'm new to this site and have a couple of questions. I was accepted to the Gilbert cohort for May (2024) and I am wondering first term where we do our clinicals? I noticed online there are 2 shifts at a LTC and 2 following a tech in a hospital. Is this correct? Also are they are all 12 hour clinical shifts from the start?

Hey! I have zero answers to any of your questions as I am a new student as well but where are you seeing this information concerning clinical?

Hi! I found it in my onboarding packet that I received with my letter of acceptance. See below ?

" Students will get more specific information about their schedule at the start of the Summer semester.

• You will not receive a clinical schedule until after the semester starts, so we do not have specific dates/times for clinical schedules. (We are still working with clinical sites to confirm placement of students)

• The first 4 clinical days are Long-term Care clinicals; this includes 2 days in a Long Term Care facility and 2 days working with the Techs on the floor in the hospital. o The other 4 clinical days are OB. "

Got it!
Well my name is Katie, and I hope to get to know you better come May ❤️

Excellent. I think it will be a great experience. I have a ton of questions about the workload, etc. It will be great to be awarded our MSN ?
