Typical Day for QI Nurse

I am currently a staff nurse on a Med-Surg Tele Unit. I have my BSN and a little over two years experience. I am looking to change my career. I do not feel as thought I am making a difference in my current position. I know from looking at other posts that the pay for QI nursing is less than bedside nursing. However, the schedule is quite appealing. I was wondering what a typical day is like in this position. What kind of qualities or abilities are required? Thanks in advance. :redbeathe

First of all you need good computer skills. Next you need to know how to make sense out of rules and regulations. Typical day consists of conference calls, meetings and chart review. Be ready for deadliness and regulations that change. No patient contact.

Great schedule.

Great schedule.

Definitely meetings galore. I would probably add trainings. Training employees in CQI and/or PI is often overlooked.

Good computer skills would be in Word, Excel and Powerpoint. Access and SPSS is a big plus!

Personally, I don't understand why a QI nurse would make less than a bedside nurse. It doesn't make sense to me.
