I'm Totally stressed out about getting into nursing school. My GPA at the moment is 3.5 and I have not taken the HESI yet for TWU but i'm just trying to figure out if I have even a slight chance of getting in. Are there any nursing students that anyone knows of that have gotten in with a GPA of a 3.5??? Thank you

Hi RaeFwTX,

I go to the Dallas campus right now. I know that TWU is now using the TEAS V exam for entrance, not the HESI a2. You should try applying to the Houston and Dallas campuses. The Houston campus tends to have a 'lower' GPA than Dallas. A 3.5 is by no means low! That is a great GPA! I can't say what exactly the minimums let in the last few semesters. You should make an appointment with an adviser and see if they can tell you!

Also, did you know that TWU has a 0.4 advantage for those who take more than 32 hours there? Maybe that would help bump it up some!

Also remember that TWU only looks at the GPA for the courses you need. Go to Bachelor of Science (BS) - TWU College of Nursing - Texas Woman's University

and download the GPA calculation sheet. When I applied, my prerequisite GPA was 3.83, but my overall GPA was lower. I re-took a government class to boost my GPA for admission.

Thank you for all the great information, I really appreciate it!!!

I think the average for the last semester was 3.7. Considering that some of those people had 4.1-4.4's after the bump, I'm sure someone in there had a 3.5!

My advisor has stressed that while gpa plays a role in consideration, it is the least important of the three. First attempt grades in nursing pre-req's and test scores have a much higher weight.

What semester are you applying for? As of next semester, you can no longer apply to both the Dallas and Houston campus -- you'll have to pick one.

I got denied last semester with a 3.5 and I was suppose to get the .4 bump which would have been 3.9...They said it was because of my first attempt in science classes they give priority to students with A's and previous Bachelor Degrees, hope that helps.

What did you get on your THEA???

They used the HESI last semester and I got an 88 combined score

So are you going to still and try to get in?
