TWU Spring 2016 Houston

Published

Hello everyone! I tried to search for a thread for TWU Houston Spring 2016 applicants but I couldn't find it so I decided to make one. I have read multiple threads from the past TWU applicants and I cant seem to figure out where I stand because some got accepted with low GPA but high TEAS score while others high GPA but low TEAS score. A little bit confused on how TWU determine their candidates.

Is anyone else applying to TWU this Spring? If so what's your stats?

My stats:

GPA: 4.0

TEAS: 76 :(

No previous degree

4 TWU preference ( not sure if this gonna help or not anymore)

And good luck to everyone who is applying!

Good luck in school!

Congrats to those that were accepted, I see a lot of TEAS scores in the 80's/90's and I was just wondering what/how/how long you guys studied prior to taking the exam. I am trying to take the exam before the year ends but I did not do so well in both practice exams; are they indicators for how well you might do on the TEAS? Thanks In advance

I know a lot of people that did poorly on the practice tests but do very well on the actual exam so don't be discourage!

I didn't get that high but my g.p.a was very high and with my prior bachelor degree bump:

My calculated g.p.a was over 4.0

I think your g.p.a must be high or teas. If you are blessed with both, then that is even better.

I got an 82 overall on my TEAS. In my opinion, the practice exams were much harder than the actual test. I think I got a 40ish then a 60ish on them. I studied about a month for it and used the book they recommend on the exam website. Good luck on the test! I'm sure you will do great!

In that month that you studied, did you study every week back to back?? Also, did read the book from cover to cover or just focused on the practice problems on the back?

How did you do on yours?

I tried to study at least 30 minutes a day. I work and went to college during the week, so it was hard to study longer than that. On the weekends i studied for at least 3-4 hours each day. I read the whole book, but mainly focused on what i was struggling with. I went over each section at least 2-3 times.

I made a 91 overall on the test with a 97 in science. I took about the equivalent of a full semester to study for it, dedicating about 10-20 hours per week. It had been about 4 years since my original A&P class and I do not have a strong science/math background, so I knew I needed to put in some serious time to do well. I reviewed each body system in depth over the course of 2-3 months, read through an introductory chemistry book, practiced math, and read the TEAS study guide from cover to cover. The chemistry book I used was Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self Teaching Guide by Houk and Post. Wonderful review! For A&P I used my original text book as well as the Cliff Notes book. Also, check out the anatomy section in Khan Academy-terrific resource. For the math I bought Davis's Math Review for Nurses-worth its weight in gold. I got a 96 on the math section. For grammar, I bought Grammar Girls Ultimate Writing Guide for Students. This book helped drive home some of the concepts that I was confused about from the study guide. I got a 94 in grammar. Reading was my lowest section-81. I did buy the online practice exams, scored in the mid- 80s on both, and went through every written practice exam I could get my hands on. Do not let the online tests get the best of you- they are extremely useful in pointing you to concepts that you may need a little extra review on. They also help you know how to "think" for the test. But they can be a bit misleading. I scored upper 90s in the reading sections and 70s in the science- quite contrary to my final test results. I can say that the best review by far was the TEAS Review Manual. So much of the exam is taken directly from this book. But I can also say that I would not have done as well if I had not used other resources to really cement the concepts and fill in gaps. In the end, everything I did definitely paid off- I was accepted to all 3 schools I applied to. I was originally an art major, so if I can do it, so can anyone else. Good luck!

Is everyone ready for the orientation this friday? I know we were supposed to be getting welcome packets but I still haven't received mine yet. Just wondering if maybe it was delayed or is it just me?

I received mine about a week and a half ago and I know a lot of others did as well. I would give them a call because there are things that were supposed to be completed by the 9th and 13th and before our advisement on Friday.

@efig23 and @irenesicle , here is the facebook page for our class if you've been accepted. I posted the packet information on here, there is already one deadline missed if you haven't got to it so do it asap.
