TWU Fast Track Program

I am in the Dallas fast-track program and I don't know what the exact acceptance rate was. When I took the NET test in January of last year, someone asked how many applicants there were at the time to the Fast Track program, and they said a little over a hundred. I would probably guess that around 150 applied, and they accepted 30, if that tells you anything.

They weigh your science GPA more heavily than the rest of the pre-reqs, so the C in chemistry might hurt you a bit. But I'm sure the advisor would know more than I do about that...

My C in Chemistry is really old...I took it in 1993, and I hope I don't have to retake it. If I do, I will...The bad grade is due to an absolutely horrible instructor--I'm one of the only ones who passed the class. I'm quite sure I can do much better, but I make it a general rule to avoid Chemistry like the plague!

Thirty out of 150 is not good news! I'll see what the advisor says and report back. She still hasn't returned my phone call.

I couldn't find anything out about it on the CON website, but for some reason I remember reading that there was a time limit on how old your courses could be, and it definitely sounds like 1993 would be too old! I would definitely ask the advisor about that. I could be thinking of another program, though...

I don't know if you are in the Dallas area or not, but if you need to retake the Chemistry, I could recommend an excellent professor at Richland College. Just PM me if you need it!

Oh yeah, and good luck and hang in there with trying to get a hold of an advisor! I remember it being notoriously difficult when I was trying to apply and it stressed me out to no end!

I appreciate so much your words of support. I'm preparing myself mentally for having to re-take Chem. Luckily, my mom is a high school AP Chem teacher, along with being about the best mom in the entire world. With her help, I can get through it and make an A.

Right now, I'm having a hard time coming to terms with just how difficult it's going to be to get into the program and with coming up with some sort of contingency plan in case I don't. I was hoping the advisor would help me sort some of that out, but she's simply not returning my calls! OH, the frustration...But it's good to know that others have had the same difficulty, so it's not just me!

It's just so disheartening to know that I could have a perfect application with all As and still not get in. And I'm not getting any younger.

Okay, I FINALLY got an appointment with an advisor for Jan. 24. I'll let you know what happens...

Not true. I visited with the program director last Thursday. She said that my 3.65 would've gotten me into the program last application period, but she couldn't guarantee that it would next time. It depends on the applicant pool. She said I would "most likely" get in with what I've got, but if I re-took Chem and got an A (pulling me up to a 3.87) it would just about guarantee me a spot. I wonder if that Chem instructor could be bribed...Hmmmm...

Hmm, very weird. I talked to someone last January, and she told me the cut-off was around a 3.8. Maybe they had a few people not accept their invitation and they ended up going further down?

I would definitely try to re-take the chem if you feel up to it. The GPA's change so much at that school, that if you can get a higher GPA, go for it! I assume they dont do the whole adding of the 0.4 to the GPA if you took classes at TWU for fast track, right?

i'm also looking into the fast track program at twu. the advisor i spoke with said there were 100 applicants for the last start date, and that 70 were rejected. she did mention that some of those 70 were not eligible to even apply, whatever that means (i guess there were some incomplete applications or people missing pre-reqs or something that disqualified them immediately). I'd appreciate you sharing any more information you find out about the program, as i too am finding it difficult to get any concrete information...mostly just rumor and speculation about GPAs and other criteria. or, we can just commiserate about how stressful this whole thing is.

anyway, you'd mentioned a contingency plan...and i've been thinking that i might need one as well, but mine is to apply for spring of 09 rather than wait till fall 09 if i don't get in. 70% rejection is pretty huge.

assuming they only calculate the gpa for pre-reqs, i'll have pretty close to a 4.0 by the time i get ready to apply, but i'm still thinking i might not make it.

I *believe* the fast-track program only starts in the summer or maymester.. it isn't like the other traditional nursing program that accepts new classes every spring and fall. I am 90% sure this fast-track class started in May or June this summer. Just thought I'd let you know...I know how confusing TWU is with their info!

thanks for the reply. yeah, the next fast track doesn't start until May 09. I think my contingency plan is more a preventive measure. I might just bite the bullet and try to get in the regular spring 09 program ,rather than try for the fast track, although, the fast track almost seems like it might be easier to get into than the regular program...especially considering that .4 they add to the gpa of students who took their pre-reqs at twu. ack!, the stress.

I don't know if the fast track is easier to get into or not. When I talked to the advisor, she told me the cut off for this year was around a 3.8... but someone on here said they heard different. Who knows! I think it all depends on who the applicant pool is every semester.
