two offers on the table need some career advice please

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I had two interviews . One was at the hospital I precept at and the other was at a LTC facitlity. I am waiting on my background check to come back for the LTC position and orientation starts on Monday. The facility called and left a message and I really dont want to turn the job down unless I know for sure I have the job at the LTC. What should I say when I return the call back to the HR manager? I should no some about the LTC job BY Friday. Please Help!

Sounds like a dilemma. Either try to speed up the process at the hospital, or go along with the LTC job until you find out otherwise, then gracefully resign. The hospital job will help your career more at this point, so it should take precedence. That is about all I can offer. It would be a shame to turn down the LTC job offer, then not get on at the other place.

Thanks so much!

I know that the hospital is best for my career with me being a new nurse but it really bothers me thinking about this because one of my fellow classmates who is now a good friend of mine highly recommended me for the job in the ltc facility and I dont wont to let her down. What should I tell her if I dont accept the job in the LTC Facility. Its hard to make a decision... they both pay the same, are night shift and they both are about five minutes away from me. I really think the LTC position will be a less stressful than a job in med/surge but my carrer path is the most important.

Surely your friend understands that acute care experience is better for your career. Thank her for her effort and offer to be of assistance to her in the future.
