Hi everyone, I have a question for all you nurses.I accepted a LPN position 3 weeks ago for a staffing agency. I was hired, and went through the hiring process, but there was a snag with the fingerprinting. Not as in I have a criminal history or anything, I don't..... but the snag was that there was some issue with the fingerprinting company where they were backed up, and it took them three plus weeks to process my fingerprints.
Now, the problem is, I started applying other places because I couldn't wait that long sitting on my thumbs without a job. So I applied the other day at a local nursing home, and got a job offer the same day. Literally the next day, I got a phone call from the staffing agency telling me the fingerprints finally went through and I can start work. I apologized and told them that I already accepted another job, as I couldn't wait any longer.
My roommate is telling me that was unprofessional, since I accepted the agency job. She said, at the very least, I should have notified them I was looking for other jobs while waiting for the fingerprints to process. I disagree. I think three weeks is ridiculous and they should have assumed I would look elsewhere.
Was I unprofessional in how I handled the situation?

Did they tell you there was a snag and a wait? If they did and you did this without saying anything to them, then yes, it's unprofessional.

After a week of waiting, I would have just been upfront and told them I was pursuing other options. Maybe that would've put a bee in their bonnet.
