Two job offers

Published

I am a new RN. I passed NCLEX Jan 31st. I interviewed with a hospital Feb 15th. I was also called from another hospital and scheduled an interview on Feb 23rd. On Feb 22nd. The first hospital offered me a postion. I accepted immediately since the job market is very competitive for new grads and I did not get hired back in Oct 2011 when GN internships were posted. But, I also went to my other interview the next day and they hired me on the spot. Now I do not know which position to choose. The first offer starts March, but the second offer does not start until June. Salary is about the same to start and same distance from my home, but the 1st offer is 8 hour shifts, day shift (without shift diff) and I would have to travel 5 days a week. The 2nd offer is 12 hour shifts, night shift ($4 extra/hr) and I would only travel 3 days a week. Even though the second offer seems more appealing to me, I thought about starting with the first offer because I really can't financially wait until June. Yet, I'm not sure it would be right to work there only 3 mos. What would you do?

Wow this is great for you.The earlier start date sounds pretty good but the 12hr shift is also quite appealing either way your in a good position.Let me know the outcome.

Specializes in OB.

You are in a tough spot. Maybe go ahead and begin the job that begins in March and see how it goes, while accepting the other offer as well. Then if you LOVE the first job after a month or two, bow out of the second job. If, on the other hand, you find that you are NOT loving the first job, you have a wonderful plan B. Just make sure you give sufficient notice to the first place before you leave so you aren't burning any bridges. You could just tell them that you hate to leave after such a short time, but that you were offered a position that is better for you.

It will be stressful potentially orienting to 2 different places in a short time, but it's wonderful that you have these options!

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. I am thinking to try out the first position since I need to start working very soon.
