tuition reimbursement

Published

As I enter nursing school I wanted to find out from other nurses out there what I can expect as far as tuition reimbursement. I realize it is different in every area and hospital. But I was wondering what other peoples experiences have been. How much is offered? Is it in place of a sign on bonus? How long of a commitment do they expect from you after taking the payout? Thanks!

Dear Sunshine, most hospitals offer tution reimbursement just like they offer you medical benefits such as dental, medical, eye care and etc. There is not obligation to stay after they have paid. Most hospitals pay $5000.00 max lifetime balance on tution reimbursement. You fill out a form before your class, have your manager sign the form, take the class, make a C or higher in the class, turn in your grade to manager and your HR, and then get the reimbursement of tution usually not fees only back in a seperate check. It is income so you will be taxed.

Also, I have never worked at a hospital that have paid full loan repayment. You may want to google blogs that tell you about hospitals that are doing that. That is a great way to work for a hospital for 2 years and they repay all your loans. No skin off your back you know....

Hope this helps. If not email me...

The hospital I work for has two options for paying for school. 1) Tuition reimbursement 2) "scholarship" payment. Both require that you are an employee before starting classes.

For reimbursement, as an above poster stated, you must fill out paper work submit it, pass with a 74% or above and then ehty pay you back, minus taxes. For the 'scholarship" if you are accepted to a clinical program, such as nursing, they pay up front, all the class fees. You are responsible for books and uniform. If you fail, you pay them.

Both require you to stay a year after the last class you have finished.

There is a sign on bonus also, that is attached to a 1 year contract,

Unfortunately, the place I am, doesnt pay schooling after youve alraedy taken it, but they do encourage that the sign on bonus be used for any student loans you may have.

Good Luck!!!!!!!:nurse:

HCA Midwest will pay for my entire accelerated BSN at Research College of Nursing + 15 hours of prereqs at Rockhurst University if I sign on to work at one of their hospitals for 2 years.

If you work in rural or underserved areas, state gov'ts sometimes offer loan repayment. A few of my classmates looked at that.

The military will sometimes offer good terms, as well.
