I just read an email.... bad news... tuition hike coming in the fall
Overall number of credit hrs goes down, some credit hrs per course goes down, but.......
It is going to make it that much harder for me to finish.
On June 22, 2012 the Ohio University Board of Trustees approved the following tuition/ fees for online undergraduate degree completion related courses with section numbers 001-099, effective fall semester 2012. Fall semester begins August 27.
Ohio resident: $240 per semester credit hour
Non-Ohio resident: $243 per semester credit hour

I was just about to post this..Just another reason why I am SO THANKFUL I speed through this program. As someone who didn't get tuition reimbursement, paying $240 per semester credit hour would have been ROUGH!! Good luck to those of you still in the program. I'm sure the numbers will decline with this new rate increase...

I know it is still a lot of money, but it is still cheaper than a lot of other online courses I have found, not to mention much more easier to get accepted without having to worry about having a 3.5 GPA. I will finish in Dec. 2012 and I still would recommend this University to anyone. It's easy to appy and the classes are only 5 weeks long. What more can you ask for.

WHAT???? That is a HUGE jump. I thought I was fully covered with my financial aid, and now I'm going to have to pay OOP. I have no freaking idea how I'm going to pay for fall, since I will be out of work on maternity leave. Great.
I agree Simply. I don't care how "cheap" OU is in comparison to other schools. If you started the program paying X, mapped out the cost, and then they increase the price by almost $100 without warning, that sucks….

Don't forget that OU is also going to semesters from quarters. I haven't actually checked what the impact is on the RN-BSN program, but there should be fewer credits required overall. You are not doing an apples to apples comparison if you are just looking at the per credit costs. As a rough guide, each quarter hour is about 2/3's of a semester hour. Translating that would be $240 * 2/3 = $160. This is more in line with what I think I read about the tuition hike, which I thought was something around 5%.
Long term total cost it's not a huge increase. It's just for those who got their financial aid award, and calculated costs for the next semester, it's a shocker. I had calculated it based on the # of credits I enrolled for for the fall course. Being that I just had my last shift at work last night, and will not return to work until October, I had not factored in having to pay an out of pocket tuition for September and October. I originally denied loans, but I think I may look into just taking out 1 small one.
The email gives a break down of the reduction in required credits, and shows that some of the courses actually dropped the number of credit hours for the same course as it was offered previously.
The whole semester conversion really confuses me. I know the overall credit hours for the degree goes down. But how do they award credits from other programs that were done under quarters or even a diploma program? And the credits we have already earned at OU, how do those carry over?
So those costs per credit hour will overall not be that big of an increase, but writing the check each class will be hard.

The good news for those starting in the fall is that they will be paying the exact same as they would with the $157. However for those of us who are already in the program the increase will be huge; for me i will have a bill over $4000 come fall and i have no idea how i will pay considering i pay OOP. Even with financial aid covering some it will be a challenge.
