Trying to be readmitted

After a couple of months of being dismissed from my nursing program, I have decided to see if I can get readmitted.

I have emailed some nursing instructors to write support letters and hopefully I get feedback back.

I have also applied to another nursing program that is about 40 minutes from the school where I am which I dont have a problem commuting twice a week.

Has anyone been readmitted and failed out before? Were you successful your second time around? What would you say in your formal interview for readmission?

Thanks!

My question would be (and if its too sensitive dont feel the need to disclose) why were you dismissed from the program.

Did you fail a paper?

Were you taken off clinical for a reason?

I failed one of the critical assessments in my 2nd year. I had to redo the clinical the next year, so my degree took four years instead of three.

I know of one person who was taken off clinical not allowed to continue.

The OP has pretty well chronicled the issue earlier this year.

To the OP: I'm an example of someone failing out and being readmitted. I'm now an RN. I remember some what happened earlier this year with you. You were a 2nd Semester that was having some severe difficulties with medications. I went back and reviewed your posts and to me, you seemed pretty unsafe. At the time, you didn't seem to have a good grasp of why you were being unsafe. I don't know if you yet do.

I would suggest going back, re-reading your old posts about this and see if you can figure out what caused you to fail. Then you need to develop some kind of system for remembering the rights and checks every time you give meds, and even figure out if it's OK to give certain meds to patients. You need to get a good grasp of insulin administration. It seemed to give you problems from what I remember.

I think you have an uphill battle, and if you can overcome your own internal obstacles, you will probably do OK.

I should add that when I failed out of school, I started doing research into transferring to a different program and the BSN program (I would have been otherwise qualified at that point) would not consider anyone who has failed out of a nursing program within the past 10 years. The other programs weren't going to accept me either as a transfer student. Ultimately, it was with a bit of luck, introspection, patience, and possibly even some divine intervention, that I was ultimately offered a seat back in the RN program. I had to go 2 semesters back due to a program reorganization, but that turned out very well for me. I went from having some problems to becoming the student that the professors and instructors never had to worry about. I had successfully turned things around.

So, is it possible? Yes. Every time I look at myself in the mirror, I see someone that failed out, got readmitted, and thrived. I manged to pass the Exit exam with a very good score and about 3 weeks after graduation, passed the NCLEX-RN on my 1st attempt.
