Hi! trying to get in lonestar college applying in september and then to any other school that will take me. I have a 11 on point nothing extra. Do anyone know if that wil get me in. I been working on this degree for a century.
Thanks Goo, I know how to calculate the points. I believe I should have a 11.74 but since my transcripts have not been evaluated, I'm waiting for them to tell me exactly what my points are. I'm staying optimistic and you should too. I searched through old posts and it seems that for the Spring students on here were admitted with as low as 11.0 and as high as 11.8 so you never know. I often wonder how many people will be applying and how they are going to beat my score... you know blah, blah, blah. But then I think about it, if it's meant to be, it will be.
In the meantime, I'm researching the school still and the application process. If I don't get in this go around, I'll apply to HCC program next fall and if that doesn't work, I'll apply again for Spring 2010.
is thier anyone applying to kingwood lonestar college or cyfair I think for the sept. deadline if so what are your points.
Hey there, I just took my HESI this morning. I have a borderline 11.155. Not sure if we round to the nearest tenth. (If anyone can let me know that would be fantastic.) It really threw me off that we couldn't see all our questions or go back and forth between them, kind of how we do with traditional paper exams. I knew I could have done better on the reading I got an 87.23. I should have retaken the English I made a B in so I could have gotten all 4 points, oh well I'll be praying until November comes. Does anyone have any helpful insight to calm my nerves? I have read through out that Kingwoods spring programs cutoff is around 11.2-11.4. Has anyone over heard anything about kingwood adding more spots to this springs group?

Hi Cassie. I spoke to the director and she told me that they take 60 in the Spring now and last Spring's cut off was 11.2. I don't think they round off from what the secretary told me; she said that whatever your points are, are your points. They load them in the computer and go down the row *supposedly* for the acceptance letters. I have always wondered what if many have the same score, what is the determining factor then... Have you filled out the application yet? The score page is on there and it will tell you your exact points. HTH and good luck to us all applying for the Spring!
I'm sure many of you will be fine. I was accepted this past spring with an 11.44. Also remember there will be some students who will accept admissions at the universities. So, try not to stress too much. Some advice, regardless of where you are admitted, do yourselves a favor and buy a NCLEX-RN review guide (such as Saunders Comprehensive). It will really help you as many of the questions in nursing school are NCLEX questions. Best of Luck to you All!!!!
Thanks Soso,
I believe you are in the evening class correct? Can you please tell me how is it? Do you find it hard to attend classes in the evening, I mean, I have to work during the day and will have to attend classes at night hopefully if I am accepted. What are your times for classes and clinicals? What could we expect the first week and what was orientation like? What are the colors for Kingwood, I would think all the Lone Star campuses are the same but things change alot from what I hear. Thanks and sorry for the many questions; it just helps hearing from someone that is in the program from the campus.
I Have The Same Points Im Going To Try For Kingwood But I Know We Should Be Good For North Harris, But Who Wants To Wait? If I Dont Make It In Kingwood Im Going To Retake My English And It Wiil Bring From 11.1 To 11.4 Good Luck Lets Kind Of Stay In Touch Mayme We Can End Up In The Same Class.
TexasTee,
Evening classes are MW lecture from 5-7 and your lab day is either or from 7-9:30 (or whenever you "get it"). Clinical is scheduled on T, Th, F, Sat 6:30am-5:00pm. Our scrubs are teal botttoms and white tops with white shoes. We still do not have the new patches with the school's new name so we're still using NHMCCD.
Orientation was okay. They gave tips on study habits and organization; had some 2nd semester students speak with us. Nothing really major...that I remember!
Fortunately, I don't have to work while in school. I quit my job and moved here from Cali with my husband. First semester, IMHO, is really not that bad if you have to work. Many were able to still work full time, have babies and continue with nursing school, while others either dropped to parttime work or stopped working all together. You should be okay....2nd and 3rd semester will more than likely a different story.
The lectures are all if not mostly powerpoint and they follow the book. Some instructors will print them out for you, some won't but, I myself, didn't find it necessary as I just followed along in my book, wrote in my book and had some notebook paper just in case. The best advise I can give you is to read your assignment as soon as you can because some of them are very, very long and it's ususally chaptersss to read. Tests are usually given every other week. Oh, it is not mandatory to attend lecture. But you must attend clinicals and labs (because you have to put in a certain amount of hours for BNE). Some days I missed class because I felt that I could read the material from home rather than drive from Katy to Kingwood and sit there going over powerpoint slides. I ended up with a 79.4 © in that class....(79.5 rounds up to a B...do you think I went bananas?!?!?!?).
Anyway, I suggested to get an NCLEX review book so that you get yourself familiar with the type of questions you'll encounter. Many of us who hold degrees in other areas struggled with this because these tests are not like test in other disciplines. You have to train yourself to think differently.
Hope this helps some. PM me or just let me know if you have anymore questions!!

You know you can calculate them yourself if you dont know i can tell you how.
