Trying to compare my GPA with others who have already gotten accpeted

Published

Ok So I'm trying to compare my GPA with others that have gotten accepted to a BSN nursing program

My school (University of South Alabama) requires a min. of 2.5 GPA

I have a 3.5 GPA

But I'm just concerned because I have read other people's posts who say that schools "say" that the GPA may need to be 2.5 but in all reality they only accept 3.6...

So if anyone has already gotten accpeted to a program.......could you tell me your GPA and the schools required GPA.

THANKS SOOOO MUCH:heartbeat

My BSN program has a minimum 2.5. I had a 4.0 in the sciences, 3.8 overall in the prereqs. I was one of 48 admitted out of nearly 200 applicants. My program also gives preference to students who take some/all prereqs at the university. Even some with good GPAs (3.7) were not admitted this year (although they had done no prereqs at the university)

GPAs and numbers will vary widely from institution to institution. You should check with your school-- often at an info session they will tell you what the lowest GPA was in the previously admitted class in addition to how many they admitted out of how many applicants. (although this might not hold up for the next year. Fall 2007 they admitted 88 out of 129, fall 2008 we're 48 out of 200 so it was definitely more difficult to get in this year at my school)

You have a pretty good GPA so should have a good shot! Good luck

I was accepted into an ADN program 4.0 pre reqs, and 3.8 overall

BSN program @ Rhode Island College

2.5 minimum to apply

Accepted with:

3.4 prereq GPA

3.3 overall GPA

Specializes in Cardiology, LTC, SANE.

At Ursuline College for the BSN program, I was accepted with a 3.75. The minimum GPA they would like is 2.5. Hope this helps!

My overall GPA 3.8 and my sciences were 3.9. There were well over 800 applicants for about 120 slots. The minimum required GPA was 3.0, but they told us that you really had to have over 3.7 to be competitive. My school admitted based on GPA and TEAS test so there were some who had 3.5 GPA and did really well on the TEAS. 3.5 is a good GPA, I just live in Northern California and the competition is crazy here. I wish you the best of luck.

My school requires a 3.0. When I applied I had a 3.4 and was made an alternate but guaranteed a spot next time around but by then I had a 3.6. The good thing is that once you get in your GPA doesnt matter. People who came in with 4.0s haven't done well and others like me that originally fell below the bar have excelled. I think this is why my school is considering changing some of their admission requirements because they currently look basically at just GPA and science grades.

Specializes in no specialty! (have to graduate first!).

At my school:

Required - 2.5

My GPA:

pre-reqs - 4.0

overall - 3.86

My NET score sucked but my GPA was high enough. Plus, I had all but one graduation requisite completed. Had I not had most of those classes completed I don't think I would've gotten in.

Got accepted into an ADn and BSN program with a 3.8 overall. However, I went into the BSN program at the private college and there were people that got as low as a 3.2 and were accepted because theie nationality was "underrepresented" in nursing. The ones with the lower grades got into the school but had to take additional courses before starting the actual nursing program.

Your GPA should be just fine anywhere.:nurse:
