Trying to change fields

Hello everyone. In have been a nurse for 9years the first year was in LTC facilities then I went into home care. I would like to go back into LTC but I'm having such a hard time finding a job. With so many LPNs out there it seems impossible so frustrated! What can i do to increase my chances?

Hope current LPN can offer you advice. Sounds like your market maybe saturated if few jobs available.

Have you updated your resume... attended any online classes to increase skills etc. Also include a cover letter with online job applications that highlight why facility should choose YOU over candidate XYZ.

Thanks for the advice I do need to redo my resume and I found a link on this site where I can get cerfications...in wish I knew this long ago...

It is hard to transition from HHC/PDN back to facility nursing. In my personal experience, it was hard to get any position outside of HHC/PDN since that has been my primary field of practice in nursing. Most jobs want a minimum of "one year of RECENT facility experience" period (if not 3-5 years). If you are going up against a lot of LPNs with recent facility experience, you have a hard way to go.

To break back in to facility nursing, you may have to go to those facilities where no one wants to work. Those are the only places that will hire nurses without any experience or any recent facility experience. I worked at a one star facility on a horrible four on two off schedule and mandatory on call to get my recent years experience (ironically after doing so, I've decided to return to PDN/HHC :yeah:).

Good luck and happy holidays.

Hi Tnmaire your very right. The competition is fierce with so many LPns out there. I don't mind going where no one wants to go for the moment I just need to get my foot in the door. Its so frustrating. My job now (pdn),don't give raises to its nurses I've been there for over 8years with the same pay! I've got to get outta there!
