Hi, i am a pre-nursing student as of right now. I am done with all my pre-req's, have a good gpa, and am not having any luck on getting into any schools i have applied to. I have applied to FAU, UCF, USF, SCC and got denied. Does anyone have any suggestions on other ways or other schools that offer a nursing programs in Florida??? I am trying a few of the community colleges as of now, but i feel like i have wasted 3 yrs in a university and am going to a community college to only recieve a associates after another 2 yrs. Any suggestions/help.... would be greatly appreciated!!!!

don't give up is all i can say. i know people who had to apply several times before getting accepted anywhere!

St. Petersburg College has an ADN/ASN program; selective admission instead of waiting list, so if you have a good GPA, your chances are better. I do know you have to be a Pinellas resident for 12 months, though, to get the best shot; they take Pinellas County residents first. They are a 4-year school, formerly St. Pete Junior College and have university partnerships with most if not all of the schools you listed, as far as BSN.

Specializes in Case management, occupational health.

How good is your GPA. Good and nursing school good are two different things.

Have any of them told you why you were not admitted?

Do you know how they decide who they admit? At my school and most of the Colleges around me use a point system that includes GPA, ACT/SAT scores, A's in pre-req's,etc. I would try to find out what it is that is keeping you from getting accepted and try to fix it.

That reminds me, at SPC, I was told you need 3.5 for RN, and they have a point system too, along with looking at your science pre-req's and stats, etc.

Specializes in med/surg, telemetry, IV therapy, mgmt.

what else is required in the application process? are you having to write essays and tell why you want to be a nurse? they also deny admission if people if they do not think they have the personality or other behaviors they feel are necessary to be in nursing. a good gpa doesn't guarantee admission. also, just like in the working world, schools give priority to students who are already matriculated at their own schools before considering students who would have to transfer in. that's just the way the world works.
