Have you had someone look over your resume? Could it be that?
I haven't gone through the program yet. I just wanted to check things out before I jumped into this.

Will California allow you to transfer your nursing license from another state with an EC degree?
Also, will Cal. accept a BSN from EC, I had heard that they would.

I have not heard anyone having trouble in my area. I know several who have finished the program and are working. BUT it is recognized by NYS. You need to check your nursing board. I thought about going that route, but decided I wanted to go the traditional route. I am using Excelsior to do my fundamentals and maternity since my local college accepts that for LPNs. That will save me $$$ and time.
Good luck!!!

No, California will not let you transfer your license from another state if you graduated from Excelsior UNLESS you made the enrollment date of December 6, 2003. No they will not accept EC BSN if that was the original way you obtained your nursing license. If you obtained your initial RN licensure from a traditional school and then did EC BSN, then it is ok. They will not allow any initial RN licensure through EC unless you enrolled before the date I posted. As LPN posted, don't do this program if you wish to someday work in California unless you take something like their 30 unit option.
What is the 30 unit option? Sorry I am getting off of the subject
I believe it is where you take all the clinical and science courses but not the arts type things like english...this option can't transfer out of California. You can use this RN license only in California. It does not give you a degree. Go to Cali's BORN and you can get the info there.
I looked on the CA BORN Site and here is what I found:
"Excelsior College graduates, like other out-of-state graduates, must meet the requirements set forth in California Business and Professions Code Section 2736, including supervised clinical practice concurrent with theory, in order to be eligible for examination and licensure as a California registered nurse. This eligibility requirement applies to students who enrolled at Excelsior on or after December 6, 2003."
Could someone clear this up for me
Thank You

I haven't graduated from Excelsior yet but I have a job offer (though I don't want to work in this particular place). I'm not sure if you can jump into some specialized nursing discipline after just graduating but I think that goes for most new RN's.Just a word of warning: if you might ever move to California don't do this program because you cannot get a license there. It may not seem like a big deal if you don't think you'll ever go to California now but it just gets on my nerves to know this, so I'm probably going to go to CA just so I can go through their 30 unit program and get a license in that state.

I am graduating from EC in Sept. I completed a year of traditional RN school ...but was not an LPN ...was a CNA and a CMA...I posted my resume on a few sites a week ago...I have been bombarded with job offers. I really don't think you have to worry about getting a job after completing EC.

It means just that...California board of registered nursing no longer allows EC grads past that Dec date. EC does not have the clinical supervised hours that is mandated by the board. Unless you enrolled in EC by December 6, 2003 (actually think it had to be the 5th) then you can't endorse in or sit for boards in that state. It means if you made the cut-off date you are "grandfathered" in and if not then you can't be licensed there using EC credentials.

Regarding the EC BSN program only: As of 1/1/05, you have to be an RN with an active license to apply- per their web site.

There are actually about six states now that will not accept the degree.....And never say never about living in Ca...........I always thought the same thing and am doing a travel assignment here and keep extending. You do not know what is going to be down the road for you...........I highly recommend a program that is accepted in all fifty states.

OK, you say six states. What states? I'm seriously contemplating this program and will never set foot in CA, but I hear lots of pros and cons on the program in generalizations, but no real information.

The only one apparently that will absolutely not accept EC is CA. I believe other states have stipulations for being licensed there.
