I have always had really wide feet and developed fallen arches in nursing school. When I got back into nursing in '04, I bought a pair of New Balance, had them fitted (4EEEE) and everything. I wore them about a week. I then bought a discounted pair of new balance at Shoe Carnival, men's size because they are wider naturally then women's shoes. I also purchased a pair of orthotics from a drug store f
or $20 that helped my bilateral plantar fascitis. I paid $300 for a pair made by a podiatrist and have never been able to wear them. The $20 ones fit better and gave me the arch support that the expensive ones didn't.
Now whenever I need new tennies, I get men's.

I generally have a hard time finding shoes for normal everyday use due to my feet being unusually wide and flat. Luckily I live in FL so flip flops are part of my daily wear
Anyway finding good nursing shoes has been absolutely impossible. Most nursing duty shoes are too narrow to fit my foot, and those that do fit are a bit snug and I know there is no way I can comfortably wear them. I have tried tennis shoes (New balance, Nike, Etc) plus payless work sneakers made for wide width feet, but a few hours into my shift I am in pain (so by 12 hrs I am limping around). I have also tried crocs which has been the most comfy, but have developed some plantar facitis, likely because they offer no support.
Any suggestions? Im desperate.
