Any other new RN's having trouble finding a job? Where I live there are 4 nursing schools, 3 hospitals, and barely any jobs. Everyone that just graduated with me in May are competing for what little jobs are available in this area. Due to the lack of jobs my family has made the decision to move back to the Memphis area. Any Memphis nurses have any insight as to what the market is like up there for new RN's with no experience outside of clinicals?

I live in Memphis but still in nursing school I can't help much but from what I hear there are jobs out there but it might take a minute to find them, lots in home care, clinicals at the hospital seem like nurses are short staff but that doesn't mean there hiring to fill to spot. GOOD LUCK!!!

Unfortunately, that is the situation in Memphis and surrounding areas like North MS.
What jobs there are, I can't tell you how many of them I see that require anywhere from 6 months to 3 or 4 years experience - minimum. I'm in a similar boat as my experience is clinic/urgent care and the hospitals that don't just ignore my resume usually e-mail to say I don't have the right experience. The latter statement is especially annoying if the position is in med surg considering that a majority of what RNs end up doing on some if not most med surg floors is passing meds; something we do in clinics so...yeah.
There are jobs in the Memphis area, but it seems as though they want you to have all kinds of experience for basic entry level positions, but none of them seem willing to give new grads chances to earn experience.
Hospitals like Baptist in the Memphis area get tons of applications so their hiring process tends to be slow cause they have to shuffle through all the applications. I'm told it is easier if you know someone who can give the hiring manager a heads up to be looking for your resume. That at least would increase your chances of getting in front of someone.
There are a lot of postings on job sites for positions in nursing homes, hospice, and home health (the latter 2 tend to favor experience).

I am having the same issue in the Nashville area. I live about 45 mins from Nashville, but have applied everywhere and nothing!

Well from my experience, no this is not an issue. When I graduated (along with many of my fellow classmates) I found a job immediately. I had a job offer the same week I graduated and started orientation a week later! I have been a nurse 2 years now, but even the new graduates seem to have no problem. My manager just hired 6 new grads to start in September. I know Nashville is another story. Several of my classmates tried to get jobs there after graduation and were denied because of lack of experience. Some of my coworkers now are originally from Nashville because they couldn't find jobs there after graduation.
I just moved here last month. Went to school in NV. Hubby got a job out here last year so I had to wait. I know tons of classmates in NV that already have jobs. I know I'll find a job eventually, just gets discouraging! I can't move elsewhere, as my hubby is the one working. It's ok though, I'm going back to school for my BSN!
