Triage/Peds Scenario Questions

Published

As a new grad in MA, the fact that I got an interview anywhere, never mind in pediatrics which is what I want (granted in a clinic rather than hospital, but still) is like winning the lottery- jobs for new grads are literally non-existent.

That said, I've been told that in the interview I will be asked triage/peds scenario questions- ie, what I would do in certain situations/prioritization. I am reviewing my Peds textbook, but if any of you Peds nurses have any examples of very likely questions/scenarios and answers, I would be so appreciative!

I graduated last Dec. and if I get this job, I will still be among the earliest in my class to get hired- most are still unemployed (and yes, I've been applying in other states as well!). I really want to land this job, so I any help at all I'd be so grateful! Thanks.

Good luck to you!!

It has been so long since I have had to take this kind of "test"...... just remember your ABC's always think airway first!! In whatever situation they give you think ABC's and go from there. Remember that almost all of pediatric "codes" are respiratory arrest leading to cardiac arrest as opposed to adults. Also remember to think about "family centered care" include developmental assessment .

Good Luck

And also remember... if they give you a scenario where "You walk in the patient's room and find them unconscious... blah blah..." what would you do question. Definitely remember your ABCs like the other poster said, but also DON'T FORGET TO CALL A CODE. That's important too! Lots of people forget that step about calling for help. I know it's a small suggestion, but it's an important step!

If it is a pedi clinic they will probably ask about vaccines so make sure you know the schedule. Triage know things about colic, head injuries, vomiting and diarrhea, dehydration, emergency issue etc.

I love working in a pedi clinic and I hope you get this job!!!
