This will be the official thread for discussions relating to Tri-C Nursing Starting Spring 2010.

Those of you expecting to be in the program this Spring check your Tri-C email through the Tri-C Myspace;)

The Information relating to our class orientation has been sent.

I got the email about orientation and am starting to get my ducks in a row so to speak -- have all the medical stuff done as I work at Akron City Hospital..need to get the and get my BLS class done. I just have heartsaver now as a nursing assistant. I am going to call Summa in the morning to see when their next class is offered. Did the orientation test. Wow -- I thought I would have a little more time as our original acceptance letter said November orientation.

And Scott...hate to be picky, but it will be 2011 when we start.

NewStart -- Lucky You ! Would have loved to been offered a PGH slot...would be so much closer to home and right near my sister in laws house who watches my youngest while I am in class.

Ah yeah unfortunately I can not edit the thread title maybe someone from the fine allnurses staff will be able to do that for me? The 2010 should be 2011.

It's fun being poked and prodded by various medical professionals.:clown:

Well I am now certified in BLS for healthcare providers. Other than a few titers I'm waiting on I'm good to go.

Anyone have nursing hold on their record? I hope this is something that will not affect my registration tonite -- I turned in my NEONI sheet and all other documentation today so I thought I would be approved to register. I will give it a go tonite at midnight, but if I can't register I will be pretty upset.

I have a hold as well. It will be lifted at 12:00AM tonight. Which clinical site are you going for? I'm going for SWG. I also purchased the patches and that "Tote" thing there is a ton of stuff in there. I also purchased about $450 in textbooks for 1300 and 1450 through Amazon, beats the $700 it would cost from the campus bookstore but still stings a little. Hopefully what they said is true and we'll use these books for the entire program.

Good luck with registration! I can't wait until I can do if for the Fall semester. You will have to keep me updated.

I got everything I wanted! Wahoo!! Good thing I had everything prechecked and then just hit submit right when the clock hit 12:00AM. Half the clinical sites are closed now.

Me too -- got everything I wanted -- Friday labs and Parma clinical...just didn't feel like driving too far in the winter When the weather is nicer in the Fall semester, I'll venture down to UH or the Clinic Looks like Southwest and Parma were in demand...must have a lot of south suburbans in this class. I did the same thing checked everything and hit the button right at midnight -- hope to get lucky like that in the future.

Were you able to get the videos thru amazon as well? I was going to pick up my patches tomorrow at East when I have micro.....over half way thru with that class thank god!

Scott -- How did you like the Dean? I thought she was so dynamic -- gave me the little oomph I needed today as I was sitting there thinking "how can I do this with three little kids?"

What about a stethoscope? Where are you getting that?

I got the video's with the assessment (1300) book. It came as part of a package deal. The price on that was a little over $113. I think the book only was a little over $75 or so. I didn't get the video's for 1450. I'm going to pick up a cheap stethoscope (probably from the uniform store in that package that comes with a pen light/ect. My parents apparently are going to get me a stethoscope for Christmas I'm going to ask for the Littmann Cardiology III based on some recommendations in another thread. The recommendations said it's best to start with a cheap scope so you'll only really hear the basic heart sounds. Then once you master that move to a better scope so you can hear the more subtle sounds.

From what I've seen amazon has the best price on the scope even a little cheaper than when I last looked.

Some people (reading another thread) swear by the Taber's Medical Dictionary. Probably because it is a lot smaller and lighter.

Like I said earlier hopefully we'll use these books the entire 4 semesters.:lol2:

Best of luck to you with the second half of Micro. Although after the first half (Mainly CH 1-6 or so) it get's easier. The last 10 or so chapters are basically common sense stuff.

As for the dean I thought she was nice. Not really any different than listening to E. Gordon Gee back in 1997 at freshman orientation at OSU. (Interesting enough after a stint as President at Brown University I believe, Gee is back as OSU President again as I'm going back to college.)

I'll probably regret saying this in a few months but I don't expect to have too hard of a time with the program. I learn pretty well just by showing up and am also pretty good at figuring out practical applications for what I've learned.
