My dogs are now used to apartment living (having lived for past 4 months in an apt)....so just want to hear from yall who travel with your dogs-what are your experiences with housing and the travel to destinations? i have a pug and boston terrier-they are my babies!

I am wondering the exact same thing. Actually, I have 1 small dog and 2 cats. what do travelers do?? Are travel agencies amenable to taking pets?

On the dogs...it depends on weight and breed. I am in the process of talking to a recruiter b/c I have a 60lb mutt/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and I am worried about housing! I will let you guys know what I hear from him.

I travel with my 2 Chihuahua's, my hubby and 12 year old daughter. My company is great. I always get a 2 bedroom apt. that is pet-friendly! I wouldn't think of traveling without all of my babies!

How much extra do you generally pay to have a 2 BR?

My travel partner had a small dog and we never had too much trouble with apartments . Usually she had to put up a deposit and in one case the apt complex held part of the deposit ( but it was justified ) . The deposit has ranged from 200.00 to 500.00 , I guess you could negotiate that into your contract .

I did a travel assignment in Baltimore with my two 50 lb plus dogs.

Cost was a $500 non-refundable deposit, which is kinda annoying when you realize the kids in the complex are noisier and more destuctive.Wonder why there isn't a kid deposit?.

I have travelled with a miniature pinscher for 9 years now. I usually have to pay a pet deposit, generally at least part refundable. My company will go ahead and pay the pet deposit up front, then deduct it over the first couple of paychecks. Occasionally I have had to take housing that might be further from the hospital if that is the one that allows pets, but am willing to make that trade.

When driving to assignments I usually plan to stay at either Motel 6 or LaQuinta since both allow pets.

I travel with two mutts. Max is a 30 pounder of unknown heritage. Sushi Malone is a 120lb moose dog, part lab, part pointer, part moose. I've never had a problem with housing or deposits.

On a side note, La Quinta has a PetPerks program. You get 15% off when mention the program.

I'm just starting to travel again with my 2 mutts. Do you guys have a home base or are you just 'out there' like me?

We're just out there!

On a side note, since this thread started I purchased a travel trailer. Now the mutts always have a familiar place to call home. My RV park neighbors have always been nice. Since most of them are retiree's they love taking care of the mutts when I'm working. I also think they like the added security of my moose mutt, Sushi.

Thanks TravelCEN. I have a feeling a travel trailer is in my future as well :)
