Traveling PMHNP

Published

I just graduated from nursing school and got my RN license. I love psych nursing, already got a job at a psych hospital, so I want to further my career and become a PMHNP. However, I also ALWAYS wanted to do travel nursing. I seem to be able to find normal psych rn traveling jobs and FNP traveling jobs, but not many or even any at all traveling jobs for PMHNP. Are there a need for them in the United States?

Also, would it be too difficult or even crazy to do some traveling nursing while going to school for PMHNP online. It would be part time, and I know people who are in NP school working but I was wondering if traveling nursing would be too much on top of NP school.

It's possible to travel nurse while being in NP school. There are a few posters here that are currently doing that themselves. The difficult part may be arranging preceptors to find while you are a traveler, but it is possible. Expect to be pretty busy with working as a traveler and being in an NP program.

There are plenty of jobs for traveling psych NP's. The proper term is known as locum tenens. Psych NP's are in high demand right now, and probably will be years down the road.
